International Women’s Day observed at Rangaloo

International Women’s Day was observed at Gram Vikash Parishad’s Head Office, Rangaloo jointly by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Nagaon, Gram Vikash Parishad and Social Welfare Department of Nagaon on 8th March 2011. To mark this auspicious occasion a day long programme was held. Officers from different departments of the district and well known persons were present in the open session presided over by Md. Siraj Uddin Ahmed General Secretary of Gram Vikas Parishad. Valuable speeches were delivered by the eminent guest speakers including Mrs Jarjina Begum (Retired Subject Teacher), Moni Deepa Saikia (District Social Welfare Officer), Rosie Kalita (Additional S.P. Nagaon), Dr. Roslin Zahan (Professor Nagaon Girls College), Based Ali (Asstt. Teacher Rangoloo High School), Abdul Munnaf (President, Gram Vikas Parishad), Rumi Begum (Senior Supervisor Kathiatali ICDS Project), emphasizing over the main objective of observing Women’s Day, women empowerment and awareness.


On this occasion tree plantation, devotional song, drawing competition and a one act play performed by JSS & GVP staff written and directed by Kajol Choudhury were one of the important parts of the day long programme including open session. Few eminent social workers felicitated on this occasion were Nagaon Zila Mahila Congress Committee president Mrs. Eliza Ahmed, District Social Welfare Officer Ms. Moni Deepa Saikia and senior advocate and former lecturer of Nagaon Law College Mrs. Deepa Saikia.


More than three hundred women participants were gathered in a slide presentation based on International Women’s Day celebration theme of the year 2011, ‘Equal access to Education, training and science and technology, pathway to decent work place for women’ Md. Mritunjoy 108 workers took part in the open session and spoke about the first aid- precautionary measures to be taken at emergency.

Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan, on Thursday claimed that the Congress-AIUDF grand alliance will win 88 seats in the upcoming Assam assembly elections. Slamming the ruling BJP, the Rajya Sabha MP also said that the alliance will perform beyond its expectation. “We will able to win in 88 seats. Badarpur: In a shocking incident, at least 15 passengers were injured after the Sealdah-Kanchanjunga Express met with an accident at the Badarpur railway station. Atleast  15 MLAs and Ministers in the current Assam assembly have criminal cases registered against them, said the Association of Democratic Reforms (ADR). As per reports, the ADR has analysed the affidavits filed by the MLAs ahead of the 2016 assembly elections and bye elections and revealed the sensational data. The analysis further stated the cases registered against the elected representatives includes murder, theft, rioting, cheating among others. Most the cases are still pending, report said.
A group of farmers from Assam has, reportedly, reached Delhi to join ongoing anti-farm laws protest near the National Capital. The farmers are the members of the All India Farmers' Associatio. As per reports, the Assam farmers' group consists of more than one hundred members. Along with the group Gajen Barman (Bijani), a member of the All India Farmers' Association central committee, has also reached Delhi to join the protest, reports said.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) president Ripun Bora today lambasted the state BJP-led government for failing to control the price rise. In a press statement Bora alleged that the price rise has dampened bhogali bihu festivity for a large section of the people of the state. “BJP-led government has failed to control the exorbitant price rise of the essential food items. It has brought misery to many. A large number of people could not arrange the Uruka feast due to price rise.” Bora further alleged.
