Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

An expert committee set up to study the big dams in Arunachal Pradesh prescribed construction of a small dam instead of the 2000 MW hydel dam at Lower Subansiri in Arunachal Pradesh.
This was what the panel members said as they were interacting with local people at Gogamukh after visiting the Lower Subansiri dam project at Gerukamukh. The experts were of the opinion that a small dam was feasible in the area.

Security forces arrested three hardcore NDFB rebels on Sunday and seized explosives and arms from thier possession. They were apprehended in a crackdown against the outfit in the state and Nagaland.
According to sources, NDFB rebel Sugan Damiary alias Thelka was arrested at Rowta in Udalguri district by the army and a pistol and 500gm of explosives were recovered from him. Acting on a tip off, received from him, the army launched an operation in Rangiya town where two other NDFB cadres Sunil Bora and Ramoni Boro were held. One pistol and three rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. In Nagaland, 14 NDFB ultras were arrested in Mon and Dimapur districts on Saturday.
Assam BJP will take out a massive agitation in December to stop mega dams' construction works in Arunachal Pradesh. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Sunday,
BJP state president, Ranjit Dutta said these dams will have adverse impact in the downstream areas of Assam. He alleged that Dispur was all out to support the dams. There is report of simmering tension at Rongia in the outskirt of Guwahati a day after 3 killed and several others injured in police firing at a group clash on Friday. According to information, the incident took place as security forces opened fire to control an irrate mob of the All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union who allegedly vandalized a number of business establishments on the Rangiya-Bhutan road at Rangiya Tiniali. The Mumbai Asomiya Sarvajanin Durga Puja Samitee has celebrated the fifth consecutive Durga Puja since its establishment in 2006. The festival was celebrated from October 13-17 at Assm Bhawan, Vashi, Navi Mumbai.

A hardcore NDFB cadre was killed at an encounter with security forces in Sonitpur district on Sarturday evening. The encounter took place at around 7 in the evening at Bhorajuli area under Bihali police station along Assam Arunachal Pradesh border. The encounter is still going on. Notably, 2 ULFA militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kokrajhar district in the wee hours on Saturday. Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of army and police launched a massive operation at Patoliguri area near Gosaigaon along the Assam-Bengal border, where a group of militants opened fire on the security forces and bullets were exchanged.
Altogether 3 persons were killed and 15 others seriously injured in a road accident in Nagaon district on Saturday. The accident took place at Dimou Chariali near Nagaon town the wee hours when a truck and a mini-bus collided killing the three on the spot. Despite restriction, a truck, breaching the orders, attempted to overcome the police squad and had a head-on collision with another vehicle coming from the opposite side.
A heavy downpour in Guwahati seemed to have marred the Durga Puja festivity on Saturday. Parts of the city have come under floodwaters following incessant rain that lashed the city for nearly two hours. Much to the utter disappointment of the pendal hoopers, a good number of puja pendals have come under rain waters in Lachit Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Chandmari, Zoo Road, Ganeshguri. The CNN-IBN has selected Assam's noted RTI activist Akhil Gogoi as one of the top ten young leader of the country. This was confirmed by the KMSS leader on Friday in Guwahati. The country's premier satellite news channel has also selected 9 other top young leaders. Gogoi has been waging war against largescale corruptions that cripple the public life for the last several years. He has been leading the farmers' body (KMSS) who of late, dropped a bomb shell against Assam health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma alleging his nexus with R H Khan where a huge amount of fund meant for Dima Hasao district was siphoned off.
