Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

After a brief lull, terror shadow is back to Dima Hasao district. At least as six villagers were kidnapped by some unidentified militants at gun-point in this hills district during the last 12 hours. The incident took place at Dehangi and Maibong areas of and the kidnapped villagers belonged to the Dimasa tribal community.
Heavily-armed militants stormed into the villages in the wee hours on Tuesday and whisked them away to the near by dense jungles. ULFA Chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa has moved a local TADA court in Guwahati seeking bail in connection with six cases pending against him. It will not be so difficult for Rajkhowa to procure bail in view of Dispur's decision not to oppose the bail petitions of these top ULFA leaders. Rajkhowa was produced before the court on Monday as he was moved the petitions. He moved the TADA ciurt a day after political adviser Bhimkanta Buragohain was released on bail. These employees of the Indian Oil Tank Limited have been remaining traceless from Lengting area in Maibong of the hills district. Police investigation is on. But the things are clueless. The process to hold talks between ULFA and the government seems to have reached a crucial point when the outfit's top leader Bhimakanta Buragohain was released on bail on Sunday. Buragohain, popularly known as Mama left the Guwahati Central jail in the morning more than a month after he procured bail from the local court in Tezpur. Talking to reporters and his well wishers in from of the jail campus he said the process for holding the much-awaited talks will be more faster if the remaining top leaders are releasesd on bail. On the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), with support from the District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRC), an organisation run by the Indian Red Cross society of Dimapur, has re-launched a physical rehabilitation centre in Dimapur, Nagaland.
"Injuries inflicted by anti-personnel mines or other explosive weapons can lead to amputation, severe disability and psychological trauma. Folk singer Rameswar Pathak passed away at a private nursing home in Guwahati on Friday. The end came at around 5-15 at the GNRC in Guwahati where he was undergoing treatment for the last several weeks. A resident of a sleepy and interior village in lower Assam's Barpeta district, he came across a a long journey to go to the acme of glory. Within a short spell of time, Rameshwar discovered music as a part of his life. A pall of gloom is descending across the state following his death. His mortal remains would consign to flames on Saturday.
Congress high command has given AICC General Secretary Digvijay Singh the party affairs in Assam in place of Union Minister M Veerappa Moily. Singh, who also looks after Uttar Pradesh, has been given the additional responsibility of Congress-ruled Assam at a time when the party is preparing for the crucial assembly elections likely to be held by mid next year. This was stated by party spokesman Janardan Dwivedi. Moily continues to be in-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh.
