Once again the best of the music talent in the Northeast will get a chance to showcase their immense talent in the newly released album The Great Eastern Rock Volume 2 which have hit stands. This time 17 bands have been chosen out of 723 entries to be featured in this album which is available free of cost with TNT-The Northeast Today Magazine.
'The first Great Eastern Rock CD had a tremendous response and we were all pleasantly surprised with the response of the readers of the magazine and the music fans and we have taken note of all the recommendations to ensure that this album is better than ever' says Geetharatha Mushahary who also works as the talent spotter in the TNT team. With entries from as far as Singapore, Sweden, USA and also different parts of India, it was a task which was not easy and finally we narrowed down to17 tracks which, according to me, is the best balanced record endores Gareth Lyngwa - who is one of the many people behind this concept. With almost no sponsorship coming by the entire cost of the CD and the Print work was borne by the The Northeast Today Magazine and as Rajoo Sharma, the Managing Editor says, 'This album came out because of our genuine love for music and not just a marketing ploy, we did not get any sponsors this time though they made all the promises before, about promoting talent in the Northeast so we decided that we will still go ahead because thats what our heart said'.
This time the album features two bands from Assam- Silver Tears and Dark Horizon. The other bands in the album are Atiar, Northwind, Eye2Eye, Horjwlai, Infinite Ashes, Dima Project, Recycle, Polyticks and Girish Pradhan amongst many others. ‘We decided to give the CD free without any added cost because we would like the fans to avail the copy without any added cost and our aim is to promote and not to make money’, says Joe Lanong, one of the talent spotters for the GER Vol 2. The Editor and Publisher of the Magazine P.B.K Manikya Deb Burman who himself is a huge music fan said that TNT –The Northeast Today will continue to strive and promote talent from the Northeast and give the bands a platform to be heard beyond just the region. We are the largest circulated magazine from the Northeast and we are now also available in the Metro’s and Nepal so the impact of this will be huge.
It may be mentioned that the magazine also covers current affairs, sports, environment, travel and politics amongst various other topics.

The government and ULFA are hammering out a slew of strategies to ensure the first ever round of peace talk by the next two months. This is what the message which came during the 2day long visit of government interlocutor PC Halder. PCG member Mukul Mahanta charges ULFA Chief Arabind Rajkhowa of accepting a huge amount of money as bribe from the government to start the peace talk.Talking to a private satellite news channel on Tuesday, Mahanta said Rajkhowa received Rs 5000 crore for stage managing arrests of ULFA top guns to enact a drama on peace talk.Mahanta was one of those who were appointed by ULFA to broker peace with the government.
Centre's interlocutor PC Halder held a crucial meet with ULFA chairman Arabinda Rajkhowa inside the Guwahati Central Jail premises on Tuesday.Halder,the retired intelligence bureau chief is understood to have reviewed ULFA'S preparedness for talk with the government on Tuesday.Halder's talk with Rajkhowa assumes significance in view of the presence of a few top rung ULFA leaders in Nalbari and Barama for joining Rajkhowa's peace procuring bid.Halder visited Rajkhowa on Monday.

At least 175 students fell ill after they consumed meal served in school in Dibrugarh district on Monday. The incident took place at No 3 Line LP School in Borbaruah Tea Estate at around 1PM after they consumed mid day meal provided by the school. According to information,half an hour after after they consumed the meal the students,mostly complained stomach pain,some others started vomitting inside the classrooms while aa few of them fell unconscious. Local residents rushed these students to the nearest hospital while 5of them have been shifted to the AMCH where they are battling for life. Altogether 19 top ULFAmen who are supposed to have been arrested in Bangladesh before being handed over to Assam police have been brought to Guwahati. According top police sources,these ULFAmen would not be produced in court as they have surrendered before the authority. In yet another development,vULFA has appointed Arunodoi Dohotiya in the central publicity wing. This was disclosed by ULFA C-in-C Paresh Baruah at an e-mail statement sent to media.
At least 10 top ULFA leaders have been captured in Bangladesh. According to information,they have been handed over to Indian government on Friday. All these leaders are in Assam police custody. Caught in an immense pressure from Assam, the Nagaland government on Thursday has suspended an armed personnel citing his involvement in the recent Golaghat incident. According to information from Kohima, NAP(IR) Battalion co-commadent has been suspended in this connection.A team of NSF is understood have held a round of talks with distrcit AASU leaders in Golaghat to discuss the rlockade AASU slammed on Nagaland in different parts of the state demanding action against the culprits.
