Ranjali Baisagu celebrated

The 11th Miru Rangjali Baisagu has been celebrated at Kalaigaon with gaiety in a two days programme had started on April 25 and 26 at Gandhi Bakari, Kalaigaon with the hoisting of Baisagu flag by Maheswar Baro, MLA, Kalaigaon, followed by homage paying to martyrs, conducted by noted Bodo scholar Dhireswar Baro Narzi. On the occasion of hoisting the flag, Maheswar Baro wished Baisagu greetings to all. Other important programmes of the day had been the various cultural and sports competitions. Another important programme of the day was the inauguration of the public ground named Gandhi Bakari.Noted Gandhian social worker Pani Ram Das inaugurated it at 8 am.

The mouthpiece of Biswngra Harimu Afad “Rangjali” was also released on the occasion. Releasing “Rangjali”, Dandi Rabha, MCLA, BTAD said that although Baisagu had been celebrated at different places by different people in different ways, but the spirit behind the festival always remained the same. He appealed people to study and respect all the folk cultures of NE. He also requested people not to damage the original tune of folk cultures. Dandi Kumar Baro, president, Biswngra Harimu Afad, thanked Jayanta Kumar Das and Dr.Naba Kumar Das, sponsor of the mouthpiece. It is worth mentioning that, both of them had donated the mouthpiece called Rangjali in memory of their late mother, social worker Kanak Lata Das. Rangjali has been edited by Birendra Sargiary and Malabika Baglari. A few spectacular cultural programmes were presented on the occasion, among which “Burai Burai Baisagu musanai, (married women’s Bihu dance) and “Chengra Sikhla Baisagu musanai” (performed by young boys and girls) could draw much public appreciation.

Several distinguished persons attended the open session and prize distribution ceremony. Prominent among them were –Nabin Chandra Baro, Inspector of Schools, Dhemaji; Dipen Baro, president, Ram Singh Baro, secretary Udalguri district ABSU, Mina Ram Baro of Bodo Sahitya Sabha; social worker Kami RamSaharia; ArunSarmah, president, AASU, Kalaigaon BPF leader Prasanna Baro etc.Addressing the people Dipen Baro said that Baisagu had been the national festival of love and affection irrespective of religion and race. According to him organizing such festivals helped younger generation to develop the qualities of leadership, which he said, needed very much these days.He also said that peaceful co-operation and mutual understanding could solve all the problems of the society.The celebration came to an end in the evening with various cultural programmes. The star attraction of the evening had been the performance of noted singer Mahadeb Brahma of Kokrajhar. Kamala Baro, executive president offered the vote of thanks at the end.

Protesting against sharp price rise of essential commodities in the country,more than five hundred people mostly woman staged dharna in front of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office today on September 2 at 11 am on the day of Bharat Bandh.The protesters blocked the main gate of Kalaigaon Revenue Circle Office preventing government officials and employees including Additional Deputy Commissioner Udalguri.
