We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Rongpi holds govt responsible for NC hills violence

2 dead as moving train dashes tractor

Two people died on the spot while a tractor on which they were riding was dashing against a moving train at an unmanned level crossing near Jogijan in Nagaon on Tuesday. According to an official statement, the incident took place when the tractor entered through the unmanned level crossing collided with the speeding 0865 Up train in the afternoon. Later, Lumding Divisional manager S S Narayanan rushed to the spot with senior officials and took stock of the situation. The train reached Hojai at around 4 in the afternoon.

Kanaksen Deka denies corruption in Asom Sahitya Sabha

Mired in umpteen numbers of allegations of corruption, Assam Sahitya Sabha president Kanaksen Deka said a section people has been trying to tarnish the image of the literary organization by spreading some mispublicity.Addressing a pres conference on Tuesday, Deka said some people are doing these only for their personal aggrandizement. AGP unification panel meets to study progress

The Asom Gana parishad’s eleven member unification panel is meeting to day in the city to carry forward the amalgamation of the regional parties before the Lok Sabha polls. According to information, headed by AGP executive president and former minister Phani Bhusan Chaudhury, the panel will talk to the breakaway AGP leaders Biraj Kumar Sarma and Rekharani Das Boro. It has already hold a few rounds of talk with AGP(P), Trinamool gana parishad and two PLP factions. Afrter holding a few rounds of talks the panel will submit its findings before the party high command within 2 months to clear the road to unification.

Akhil Kr Medhi appointed new Gauhati University VC

Senior Professor and former science dean of Gauhati University Akhil Kumar Medhi is set to be the new Vice Chancellor of the same varsity. The decision top this effect was taken on Monday by Chancellor and Assam Governor Lt general (Retd) Ajay Kumar Singh. The Governor has already sent a letter to Professor Medhi to this effect. According to information, administrative formalities for appointment of Professor Medhi has yet to be completed. But these are expected to take a formal shape on Tuesday. Poachers Mun Bezbaruah arrested in the city

At last forest department has managed to arrest poacher Manu Bazbaruah from the city on Monday. According to information, Manu was arrested on his way to the Santipur based forest office. Later he was produced before the session court in the city which remanded him to fourteen days judicial custody. It may be noted that a joint operation by police and forest department seized deer meat, elephant leg, skjin of tigers and a huge cache of arms and ammunition from his Dispur based residence but he was not available. Of late, Bezbaruah evaded police arrest with an anticipatory bail petition.

The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) has charged the government with trying once again to divide the cadres in the name of fresh bid for peace talk.
