We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Brown sugar worth Rs.1 crore recovered, three held

The Government Railway Police (GRP) today recovered brown sugar weighing over 1 kg from the possession of three drug peddlers in the Kamakya Railway station, Guwahati this afternoon.According to GRP sources, the trio brought the brown sugar from Manipur and was heading towards Allahabad to sell it further. The estimated cost of the contraband in the international black market is around Rs 1 crore. The trio have been identified as Md Nurul Haque (39), Md Farooq Alam (27) and Md Anif (31), the GRP sources confirmed.In another incident, the GRP also seized ganja weighing 34 kilograms and arrested three persons in this connection.

14 injured in Howly road mishap

Altogether 14 people have been injured, four them seriously, when a fast moving passenger bus collided head on with an auto van near BH College area in Assam's Barpeta district on Tuesday morning. NEC meet working out Vision 2020 for North East

The North Eastern Council is holding its crucial session for the second day at the Pragya Bhawan in Agartala on Tuesday to finetune the 2020 Vision.. Assam registers first ever cyber crime case

For the first time Assam has registered a cyber crime case on Monday. The case has been registered with CID of Assam police acting on complaint that a huge Rs 3, 30,000 has been duped in internet banking. A Special investigation team is set to deal with the case bearing No 18/08. The victim has approached the special investigation team alleging that he received an e-mail from a company based in the United States of America which offered him a job of a comfortable amount. The company instructed him to transfer some amounts from one bank to another adding that the amount would be deposited by the agents of the company.. NC hills update: 2 more workers killed

Suspected DHD(J) militants have killed two more workers engaged in railway broad gauge construction work in North Cachar Hills district on Monday. According to information, the incident took place on at Migraindisa under Mahur police station at around 11-30 am. NEC begins its plenary session in Agartala

The North Eastern Council has begun its two-day plenary session in Agartala on Monday. Inaugurated by Union Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) Mani Shankar Aiyar the meeting is being attended by all Chief Ministers and Governors of the region, barring Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The meeting is schedule to sign 'Vision-220' document. Assam is set to be represented Minister for Planning and while PWD Minister of Arunachal Pradesh has arrived in Agartala. The session is also set to discuss a plan for tackling poverty in the region and development of roads, railways, tourism, information technology.
