We are proud of you Mr. Mahadev Deka for bringing laurels to our state. Though miles away from home, such rare feat of achievement by any person from our native really makes the banner of Assam fly high and higher. Congrats once again!

This is last year news. He was runner up in Mr Universe 2008. Just 2 days back this year 2009, he has won the Mr. Universe. What about that news? Who has written these comments so late, after 1 year??

he is the trainer of our gym,,,i c him everyday,,,he is a very good human being..we r very much proud to c him...bt at the same time it feels so bad that the day he won the title the whole i was sittin in front of tv to c him...bt not a single news chanel has covered this story...except a local news chanel ie NE TV

It is indeed a proud moment for India and Assam, I am overjoyed by this exciting news and in fact took the pride in informing lots of my friends at office about this glorious achievement by Mr Mahadev Deka. I would like to congratulate Mr Mahadev Deka and would like him to reach more landmarks in coming years.

Its a great honour and respect to all the North eastern people...n an enthusiasm for all the youth..Mr Mahadev Deka showed us the way that everythig is possible... hope more of us (North east) folks was inspired by his success....n will always believe tht we also can reach the goal one day. I remember the first time I met Mahadeb sir. I had joined a gym for the first time in my life, and by sheer luck, he happened to be my coach. On my first day, it was he who saw me crash on my chest after 2 pushups, I was that weak. But then he worked his magic, and in 6 - 8 months, I was working out with significantly heavier weights each time, culminating in a point where, though I would not have qualified for any tournament, I was as fit as an athlete. So here's a big thank you to Mr. Mahadeb Deka. We'll always be proud of you, sir :)

Black Widow kills one more in Haflong

Suspected Block Widow militants have killed one more person near Haflong on Friday morning to make the sutuation more volatile. According to information, one ZP Roia was killed near Haflong at around 10-45 morning. Roia is said to be the president of the Beitei apex body. Immediately after the incident the armed rebels left for the dense forest areas nearby.Notably, the murder and mayhem in the North Cachar hills district have forced Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to cut short his China visit. Guv sets up panel to study GU VC resignation

Assam Governor Lt General (Retd) Ajoy Singh has set up a panel to decide on Gauhati University Vice Chancellor Dr Amarjyoti Chaudhury's resignation he field last week. According to the Raj Bhawan sources the governor has suggested Dr Chaudhury to continue till May 29. Comprising several prominent educationists and intellectuals, the committee will submit the findings of the entire situation of the varsity.Meanwhile, the governor has called education minister Ripun Bora on Thursday and sought to know the government stand. The minister reportedly informed the governor that the Assam Government is ready to accept the Chancellor's decision.

Sensation still prevails in North cachar hills district a day after the Black Widow militant shot dead ten truckers minutes after they gunned down a train driver in between Mopa and Kalachand.This has forced Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who is on a week long China trip, to cut short his visit.According to information, Mr Gogoi is schedule arrive back the state on Friday.On the other hand, the Centre has sought a detail report on the situation in the hills district which is posing a serious threat to a number of central government sponsored projects besides the Umrangsu based power project.Meanwhile, our New Delhi correspondent has informed the Centre is taking serious note of these...

NRL runs Rs 500 crore loss; AASU blames govt

The All Assam students Union has blamed it all on Delhi and Dispur for the uncomfortable situation of the Numligarh Refinery which is running a huge Rs 500 crore loss forcing it to hike the price and petrol and diesel.AASU leaders here say the government is doing precious little to resolve the problems of the refinery proposed in the historic Assam Accord, 1985. They have alleged that the situation could have been averted has the Assam government ensured 26% stake of the refinery instead of the current 10%. The student body said the Centre has never been seriously dealing with the situation which can announce Rs 1,38,000 crore subsidy for Hindustan Petroleum Corporation and BPCL.The AASU...

NC hills violence erupts again: 10 truckers killed

Violence in north North Cachar hills district has taken a grim turn on Thursday with the killing of ten truckers at Umransgu all of whom belong to the Vinoy Cement Factory.According to information, the incident took place at Panimur at round 1:30pm today when the suspected DHD(J) militants forced these to halt and set these on fire after killing the drivers and helpers. Immediately after the incident, the militants escaped creating panic in the area.Notably, on Saturday after army and police crackdown at Heralu camp in the hills district bordering Manipur, the militants announced withdrawal of ceasefire. Further, they warned the authorities to stop the on going road and power projects....

Mongoldoi: 4 died in car accident

Altogether four people died when an ambulance collided its head on a truck at Milanpur Chowk in Mangaldoi las on late Wedesday night. The deceased have been identified as Antony Mushhary, Lucia Mushhary, Suraj Biswakarma and Basat Biswakarma.
