ULFA-Govt Accord ready before Bihu

The top home ministry group is preparing a draft of an accord to be signed with the pro talk ULFA leaders to woo the voters in the poll bound Assam.

Highly placed sources in home ministry told Assam Times in Delhi that the draft preparation work is nearing an end and the main demands have been conveyed to the former ULFA leaders who are believed to have agreed.

A delegation of top ULFA leaders are expected to informally hold the talks with the officials to finalise the draft by the first week of January--just before magh Bihu. Deported ULFA leader Anup Chetia is also expected to attend the path breaking talks in Delhi in presence Prime Minister Narendra Modi

After two more rounds of back to back of talks the pro talk ULFA leaders and Prime Minister will sign the Accord. A couple of days after it, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Assam to open the SAF Games. Modi would also attend the Sankardev Sangh annual session at Sivasagar on February 6 next year.

BJP central leadership think it the best possible way to woo the voters three months ahead of the assembly poll. The ruling party leaders at the Centre are understood to have been groping for poll issues to move the people.

"The Assam Accord like pact is final. These are being prepared in the knowledge of the ULFA leaders who have been talking to the government. The demands include ST status to the 6 ethnic communities which is expected to be accorded when the Prime Minister would be on a visit to the state on February 8 next year," said a senior BJP leader.
