Man sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment
The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge, Darrang on Saturday awarded rigorous imprisonment to one Nabi Hussain(50) of village Silbori under Dalgaon Police Station for brutally killing one of his neighbours Firoz Ali and then burying the dead body in an attempt to conceal evidence. The judge Thaneswar Kalita also imposed a fine of Rs. 25000 against Nabi in default of which the convict will have to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a term of another one year. According to the police records,Firoz Ali was murdered with sharp weapons on June 22,2003 after which Samsul Hoque son of Late Firoz Ali lodged a police complaint stating that his father was brutally killed by Nabi Hussain,Noor Hussain and Younis Ali following a long standing land dispute between their families.On the basis of the F.I.R the police after three years arrested the all three accused and sent them to jail. The court after going through the evidence found Nabi Hussain guilty and convicted him for life term imprisonment. However the other two accused were acquitted due to lack of sufficient witness and evidence.

UDALGURI: The Assam Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of newspaper reports of the alleged incident of police atrocities on a doctor in Chirang district on Friday.
AHRC has issued a notice to the District Magistrate, Chirang to cause an inquiry into the incident where media reports stated that the Officer-in-Charge of Amguri PS in Chirang District not only assaulted Dr. Madhurjya Kakati, in-charge of the Amteka Mini PHC but also made him to kneel down along with two others for not wearing masks.

TANGLA: A devastating inferno gutted six houses in Pujakhola locality of Tangla town on Tuesday night at about 9 pm.
Though the source of the fire has not been ascertained ,fire broke out followed by explosion of six cylinders razing the properties worth lakhs to the ground within minutes.

UDALGURI: A baby hog deer weighing about six kilogram was rescued by Mithu Sarkar and Ankit Tanti, two activists of Green Valley Wild Life Protection Society, an NGO of Orongajuli tea estate area today at about 3.00 pm and handed over this to the Udalguri forest department in a healthy condition.
While talking to this correspondent, Mithu Sarksr informed that the NGO has been instrumental to rescue young ones of hog deers, wild elephants, tiger cubs in the near past too and till date, it has been able to rescue such animals which came to their notice.
