Adivasi Mahasabha to starts from Oct 4

A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district. 

Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country. 

Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state

Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

Gopal Chandra Basumatary is no more. The president of All BTAD Gaonburah Association breathed his last at his resident Kashibari in Kokrajhar on Saturday. He was 68. Family members of arrested television journalist Jaiklong Brahma alleged that police has not yet made medical care available to him. His wife Citra Brahma claimed that her husband suffers from high blood pressure and diabetes. "He is bereft of medical attention. More so, he is held up in an unhygienic lockup," she said. She demanded medical facility for Brahma and that he be kept in a suitable room. Citra Friday filed a petition seeking immediate medical facility and health care. The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and the All Assam Students Union (AASU) slammed the state government for arresting journalist Jaiklong Brahma and said that the government has failed to take stern actions against the armed outfits and arrested Brahma to divert their failure.
