Adivasi Mahasabha to starts from Oct 4

A hectic preparation is in full swing to host 12th Adivasi Mahasabha with three days colourful programme scheduled at Magurmari High School ground from October 2 next in Kokrajhar district. 

Stephen Lakra, working president of the Reception Committee of the Mahasabha told that the Mahasabha has been organising to uplift social, literary and community integration of the Adivasi in Assam as well across the country. 

Over 2000 delegates from various districts of Assam are participating in the grand function, besides 50,000 people's thronged has been expected on the open session of the Mahasabha. The reception committee has engaged 150 volunteers to serve the Mahasabha to market a grand successful which is the biggest function of the Adivasi community in the state

Dr Rameswar Oraon, chairman National Commission for Scheduled Tribes will grace as chief guest, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary has consented to grace as inaugurator on the open session on October 4, Lakra said.

Jaiklong Brahma, a senior journalist in Kokrajhar, was arrested by police on Tuesday night in Kokrajhar for links with NDFB (Songbijit faction). Brahma, who is currently working as Correspondent with a Guwahati based satellite television channel.  Brahma was called by police for personal discussion at Kokrajhar Sadar police station, but later arrested. The Bodoland Students Union (BSU) took out a candle light rally at Kokrajhar town on Wednesday expressing solidarity to Priya Basumatary, who was killed by NDFB(S). The rally was started at BSU's office office at Tengapara. The students union condemning the killing, said that it was ashamed for society as students were also not spared by militants in the state. A three-days workshop on citizen journalism begins at Bodofa House, Bagansali in Kokrajhar on Monday which is being organised by All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) in association with Assam Times Foundation. Over 30 participants from various parts of the district participating in the workshop. The workshop is being organised to train young people in the field of reporting and digital photography with so as to enable them to work as citizen journalist, said the organiser.
