Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Paralyzing bandh in Tinsukia

Normal life comes to a grinding halt in Tinsukia district on Thursday following the 12 hour bandh in protest against the incident at Bijuliban where ULFA men shot dead a businessman and his daughter on Tuesday night.Vehicles are off from the roads. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices are remaining closed under the impact of the bandh called by the Bhujpuri students union.      Security forces are patrolling on the streets to avert any untoward incident in the district during the bandh hours.

Unfortunate incident: Munda

   Forest minister Etwa Munda termed the Bijuliban incident an unfortunate one. But in the same breath he said that the incident does not suggest law and order break down in the state.  Munda who has been camping in the district is visiting the Bijuliban village on Thursday where ULFA men gunned down local trader Nandalal Shah along with his daughter. 

Tinsukia SP transferred

Tinsukia SP Arnab Deka has been transferred on Wednesday hardly 24 hours after ULFA men shot dead a local trader along with his daughter in Bijuliban area.Karbi Anglong SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta will take over as new SP of the troubled torn district on Thursday.

Red carpet for Himanta

The Asom Gana Parishad is fully prepared to roll out red carpet to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who is contemplating to quit the ruling party.Encouraged by the recent but secret meeting with the former minister, the AGP held its executive meeting at its headquarters on Wednesday where all leaders agreed to welcome Dr Sarma.Later talking to reporters, president Atul Bora said they would welcome anybody who can repose faith on regionalism.

Protestor dies in Tinsukia

A protestor died hours after policemen thrashed him when he along with hundreds of people hit the streets in Tinsukia alleging government failure to ensure life and property.Identified as Dinabandhu Sarma, he died at the Doomdooma Hospital where he was battling for life after being severely beaten up by security forces to disperse the protestors on the road.  

ULFA alert in upper Assam

Stunned by the Tinsukia incident, security forces are put on alert apprehending more ULFA attack on businessmen.Sources told Assam Times that army, police and central para-military forces are fanning in the upper Assam districts in search of the culprits who killed trader and his daughter in Bijuliban area on Tuesday evening.On the other hand, a section of local residents blamed Union home minister Rajnath Singh for his provocative statement which was why ULFA launched the attack to make its presence felt.     

Gogoi blames ULFA, reviews situation

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi reviewed the law and order situation at a meeting in Dispur a day after ULFA shot dead a trader and his daughter in Tinsukia district.The authorities have already deployed four companies of additional forces in Pengeri area.Police along with army, CRPF and SSB are on an intensive operation to apprehend the culprits. Protest over trader killing

At least ten people sustained injury when security forces sprang upon a group of people who hit the streets in Tinsukia district in protest against ULFA’s attack on a businessman on Wednesday.Local residents in large number blocked the road in Bijuliban area demanding safety and security of the people alleging that the government has been failing to protect the lives and property of the common people.They further demanded strict action against the culprits involved in the Wednesday’s incident where gunmen shot dead businessman Nandalal Shah and his daughter.Despite repeated requests, the people refused to clear the road forcing the policemen to resort to lathi charge to disperse the...
