Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

No respite from rain havoc

Incessant rains again wreak havoc in Guwahati in the form of massive waterlogging in parts of the premier north eastern city.Many areas in Zoo Road areas along with Chandmari, Lachitnagar, Nabin Nagar have yet to get out of the waterlogging.“The river Bharalu is full of water. Panic over ULFA ban

Panic grips the Hindi-speaking people a day after ULFA imposed ban on two groups for refusing to tender apology on the charges it levelled on the Tinsukia trader killing.Talking to Assam Times in Tinsukia, Anit Yadav said, “we are shocked to have heard the ban imposed by ULFA. We have been living in Assam for the last several decades. Teacher held for Victoria suicide

Amid raging controversy of the Victoria suicide case, police arrested a person in Guwahati accusing him of abetting the Meghalaya woman to commit suicide early this month.Identified as Manbha Kumar Haijam Syiem, he hails from Laitumkhrah area in Shillong to be was arrested in connection with the case registered at Dispur police station, under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) IPC.The Hyderabad-based school teacher misbeheaved with her when she met her to be depressed later. Dispur police picked up her from the International Hospital on July 5 who later hanged herself in the toilet of the police station.

Bhimajuili accused caught

Sonitpur police have caught three youth hours after they allgedly took the lead in beheading a 60 year old woman branding as witch on Monday. According to the local residents in Bhimajuli where the incident took place identified as Deliram Bey and his wife instigated the villagers to kill the woman after dregging her out of the home to a river. Those accompanied Deliram namely Naren Ronghang and Raju Bey were also arrested.  

ULFA bans Bhujpuri body!

The United Liberation Front of Asom has banned a Bhujpuri student organization amid an escalating protest over the recent killing of a Tinsukia trader.In a statement, the outfit has asked the common people to distance themselves from the Bhojpuri student leaders who have targeted the outfit bereft of any reason. Accoridng to ULFA, the Bhujpuri student leaders have crossed the limit when they staged protest against the Tinsukia incident where gunmen killed a local trader and his daughter at Bijuliban area last week. 

Watergate: Prilm probe by SC Das

Additional chief secretary SC Das will do a preliminary probe in the Louis Berger allegations.Disclosing this in Guwahati on Monday, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said his government is fully prepared to hand over the case to CBI on the basis of the of Das panel findings.Gogoi’s statement assumes significance amid simmering demand for probe in the allegations that a section of ministers and GMDA officers in 2001 received bribe for awarding contract to US based company in water sewerage project.

CBI probe into watergate

Various parties and organizations demand CBI probe into the multi crore watergate that touches off a seismic wave of reactions across the nation. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday gave hint of a CBI probe to unearth the scam while BJP MP Ramen Deka said that he would talk to the prime minister demanding a CBI probe. “I will raise the demand at the Parliament session which begins on Tuesday. We need a thorough probe into the scam to identify the culprits,” Deka told reporters.

ATASU gears up for agitation

The All Tai Ahom Students’ Union will gherao the MPs to raise their demands from July 27. According to ATASU president Pranjal Rajkonwar they will demand ST status to the Tai Ahoms along with five other ethnic groups.
