Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Hectic day for NE BJP

Violence mars Assam bandh

An orgy of untoward incidents marred the 12 hour statewide Assam bandh on Tuesday. Called by the All Assam Bengali Student Federation demanding inclusion of all religious Hindu Bengali people in NRC, the bandh started at 6 in the morning.Bandh supporters in large numbers came out to the road in many places.Some of them brunt tyres on the road to disrupt the movement of vehicles.In some places, the supporters forced some shops and markets to remain close. The bandh meets partial response in BTAD areas.

Amit Shah on visit to Guwahati

BJP president is on stock taking visit to Guwahati nine months ahead of the assembly polls.Immediately after landing at the Borjhar airport, he along with 10 other top leaders straightly arrived at the Machkhowa ITA to address the convention of the party’s north eastern leaders.Later in the day he would met the state leadership to take stock of the state’s pre poll political landscape.   He is scheduled to leave the city in the evening.

Amid resurfacing dissidence APCC president Anjan Dutta is scheduled to meet Sonia Gandhi to discuss some crucial issues on Tuesday.Sources told Assam Times that Dutta is likely to seek the party high command’s seal of approval for stern action against the dissident leaders.Apart from poll strategies, dissidence by Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Balin Kuli, Hiranya Bora are expected to figure in the discussion scheduled at the 10th Janpath on Tuesday afternoon.Dutta along with chief minister arrived in New Delhi on Monday and attended Sonia Gandhi’s iftar party in the evening.  

Encephalitis wreak havoc: toll 21

Japanese encephalitis continues to wreak havoc in many parts claiming at least 21 lives within the last couple of days.In Golaghat district alone, the killer disease have claimed 4 lives. Over 15 people have been undergoing treatment in the district.Golaghat is followed by Morigaon district where the toll stands at 3. Two people died each in Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur districts.According to information, 128 people have been undergoing treatment across the state.

One more dies of encephalitis

The killer encephalitis has claimed yet another life when a person died at GMCH on Tuesday.He was Mithinga Bodo from Sonitpur district who has battling for life for the last three of days.Bodo died in the early in the morning hours after a woman died of this disease in Golaghat district on Monday.With this, the toll has gone up to 21 during the last couple of days. Fourteen other people are still undergoing treatment at GMCH.

Extension of NRC time frame

The Assam government has recommended the extension of the time-frame for submission of NRC applications.In its additional affidavit before the Supreme Court, Dispur has requested the authority to simplify the ongoing process to update NRC. It further seeks more computers along with operators.Justice Ranjan Gogoi who has been following the entire affairs is reviewing the process on Tuesday. Justice Gogoi is further considering as many as five new affidavits on Tuesday.

SC reviews NRC process

 The Supreme Court will consider Dispur’s additional affidavit requesting inclusion of the original inhabitants based on the Citizenship Act 1955, Rule 2003 in the updated NRC.Official sources told Assam Times that the government has pleaded for changes in the modalities of the NRC updating exercise for unconditional inclusion of all the Scheduled Tribes (STs) both Hills and Plains and other six ethnic communities namely Morans, Mataks, Chutias, Tai-Ahoms, Koch-Rajbonghis and tea communities.
