Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

CBI probe into watergate

Various parties and organizations demand CBI probe into the multi crore watergate that touches off a seismic wave of reactions across the nation. Pall of gloom in GU

A pall of gloom grips the Gauhati University premises a day after Dr. Anamika Ray passed away at a New Delhi-based private hospital.Teachers and students condoled the death of the assistant professor of communication and journalism department on Monday and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members. Watergate and bribegate

The Louis Berger episode touches off a seismic wave of reactions across the state putting a former minister in trouble.  Caught in a simmering controversy, former GMDA minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarms said that no body bribed him and the contract for the water project was awarded as per rule of the government. The US department of justice has referred the involvement of officials only and minister, said Dr Sarma. Sarba to replace Siddharth!

Central BJP leadership is asking Sarbananda Sonowal to take rein of the state president just nine months ahead of assembly polls.Sources told Assam Times that Siddharth Bhattacharya is believed to have received some crucial charges to ensure poll victory.The Union minister, who is the obvious choice for the chief ministerial candidate, is not interested for the assignment. “If he is allowed to take over as the state unit president Sonowal will have to quit as Union minister which he does not want,” said a senior BJP leader.      

AIIMS divides BJP MPs

Internal bickering grips BJP MPs just nine months ahead of the assembly polls. The scheme of things have reached New Delhi for intervention by prime minister.  The bone of contention is the proposed All India Institute of Medical Science in the state. Four MPs want the state-of-the-art medical institute in the central part of the state while three others have been demanding it in North Guwahati where the government has finalized.Raha is the choice for Rajen Gohain and RP Sarma.Bijoya Chakrabarty and Sarbananda Sonowal have been demanding AIIMS in North Guwahati.   Rajen Gohain who recently spewed venom at Kaliabor MP Gaurav Gogoi has faced flak from his own partymen.

Assam bandh partial

Normal life in parts of the state remains heavily disrupted following the 12 hour statewide bandh to be marred by an orgy of violent incident on Monday.Vehicles are off from the roads. Shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices are refusing to open under the impact of the bandh call by OBC youth wing. Bandh supporters in some parts tried to enforce the bandh by burning tyres on the road to disrupt the movement of the vehicles.  

Hundreds protest against ULFA

176 APBn constables selected

Kokrajhar district has announced the names of 176 newly recruited APBn constables on Sunday.SP Sunil Kumar declared the selected names who appeared in the written tests conducted by district level selection committee.Talking to Sunday, Kumar said that 176 persons including 17 women have been selected on merit basis. He said that as per guidelines from concern higher authority of the police the district level selection committee chaired by him was conducted the recruitment process and find out all merit candidates who are efficiency in their position. 

NRC process gets slow response

Much to utter disappointment the progress to update NRC across the state is progressing at a snail’s pace.According to officials, the officials deployed in the assignment are likely to complete the on going phase by July 31.Firstly, only 20 per cent people have so far responded to the filing of forms with relevant documents.Secondly, many NRC centres have not been able to smoothly function because of some technical problems. “Power failure is responsible for most of the NRC centres,” say officials.Another problem is man power shortage which is why, a centre is not in a position to facilitate over 20 people submit the forms with documents.“If it so happens, we won’t be able to complete the...
