Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Extension of NRC time frame

The Assam government has recommended the extension of the time-frame for submission of NRC applications.In its additional affidavit before the Supreme Court, Dispur has requested the authority to simplify the ongoing process to update NRC. It further seeks more computers along with operators.Justice Ranjan Gogoi who has been following the entire affairs is reviewing the process on Tuesday. Justice Gogoi is further considering as many as five new affidavits on Tuesday.

SC reviews NRC process

 The Supreme Court will consider Dispur’s additional affidavit requesting inclusion of the original inhabitants based on the Citizenship Act 1955, Rule 2003 in the updated NRC.Official sources told Assam Times that the government has pleaded for changes in the modalities of the NRC updating exercise for unconditional inclusion of all the Scheduled Tribes (STs) both Hills and Plains and other six ethnic communities namely Morans, Mataks, Chutias, Tai-Ahoms, Koch-Rajbonghis and tea communities. 

Himanta’s rendezvous with AGP

AASU calls off ONGC bandh

The All Assam Student Union has called off the 100 hour ONGC bandh which started on Monday.Talking to Assam Times, Sivasagar AASU leaders said that the decision was taken at their tripartite talks with ONGC and district administration on Monday.“ONGC authorities have assured us of a slew of measures to consider our demands at an earlier date. We will again resume the tripartite talks on July 17 and therefore, we have called off the bandh till that day. Per capita income soaring!

 Dispur claimed to have increased per capita income to Rs 49,480 in last fiscal from Rs 13,059 in 2001. In a statement released According to an official release on Monday, the GSDP at current prices has also increased to 14.85 per cent from 4.07 per cent during this period. GSDP now is Rs 1,62,652 which was Rs 38,313 in 2001-02. ONGC bandh brews power cut

NRC: APW moves fresh plea

Amid an escalating controversy over NRC, the Assam Public Works on Monday moved yet another affidavit before the supreme court alleging that the ongoing process is not satisfactory.In the affidavit submitted before the court a day before the review of the progress, the non governmental organization alleged a great deal of confusion and anomalies over the testimonials required to complete the process.APW observed that they are not happy with the way the things are taking place to update the NRC in the state.SC justice Ranjan Gogoi is scheduled to review the progress of the project on Tuesday apart from taking up a number of pleas in this regard.
