Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Stage set for Amit Shah visit

 Assam BJP leadership is gearing up for Amit Shah’s visit slated for Tuesday.Apart from attending his rally, the BJP president will hunker down with state leadership to take stock of the preparedness for the assembly poll early next year.  Senior party leaders told Assam that Times Maha Sampark Abhiyan will be focus but the priority is obviously on the polls.“Immediately after arriving in Guwahati he is scheduled to address a zonal organising meeting of the region,” said party leaders.  

AFSPA heat on Kiren Rijiju

A new north eastern organization condemned Kiren Rijiju for allowing the Centre to extend AFSPA in Nagaland.In a statement, Save Sharmila Solidarity Campaign Team alleged that the Union minister of state who hails from the region never opposed the move.According to the organization, the move has proved himself as an opportunist politician rather than being a true representative of people.If Rijiju was bypassed by the Centre, he must clarify his position, said Ravi Nitesh, convener of SSSC.SSSC appeals with the government to re consider its orders and to adopt measures and strategies that can save people of AFSPA imposed region from human rights violations. 

Stop resorting to AFSPA

EMFA slams Jorhat DC order

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has expressed serious concern over the Jorhat district magistrate’s recent order preventing media persons from entering into the DC office without his prior permission. Border row reaches SC again

Dispur is preparing a set of papers to counter Arunachal Pradesh in the court of law over the 26 year old inter state border dispute.Sources told Assam Times that the Assam government is fully prepared to properly respond to the Supreme Court’s order by the next couple of days on the recent plea accusing Dispur of resuming construction within the disputed areas. A three-judge bench headed by Justice T S Thakur sought a response from Dispur within two weeks on the interim application of Arunachal Pradesh.
