Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Gogoi visits flooded areas

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday made an aerial survey in the flood affected areas in Dibrugarh, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Sivasagar.He asked the authority to intensify relief and rescue operations in the flooded areas. He further alleged that the Centre has not released any fund to help the flood-hit lot. Trouble for Cong disisdents

 Dissident Congress leaders have been camping in New Delhi to carry forward their further course of action. According to sources, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who is taking the lead will help them meet BJP president Amit Shah in the capital on Saturday.The dissident MLAs include Kripanath Malla, Piyush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Palab Luchon Das, Balin Chetia, Mansingh Rongpi, Pradan Baruah who left for New Delhi in the after.Hours after them Dr Sarma also left for the capital. Notably, the sitting Congress MLAs have been finding it difficult to get assurance of tickets to contest the assembly polls early next year in the face of resistance from a circle of senior Assam BJP leaders.

Flood: Ripun takes on Sarbananda

Congress leader Ripun Bora took on Sarbananda Sonowal a day after the Union minister Union minister claimed that the Centre has released funds for the flood affected people.Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, Bora said that the Rs 270 cr fund released recently was the outstanding amount. “Sonowal is not perhaps not aware of these and that’s why, he has been saying so,” said Bora.       Bora took on the Narendra Modi  government saying that the Centre has done precious little to help the flood affected state.

GU impasse heading for end

The Gauhati High Court on Friday set up a special panel to look into the allegations against acting chief justice K Sredharan Rao. Taking up two different petitions against the Justice Rao a division bench of the court set up the committee. The bench asked the committee to submit the report within ten days. “We are satisfied with the move. Let our serious allegations against the Justice Rao be probed. We will wait for the findings,” a lawyer told Assam Times when they were holding a meeting to call-off the protest.After the meeting at the old high court premises the Bar Association leaders confirmed that they would join the functionings from Monday. Key demands on the cards

A huge gathering of the highlanders in Manipur has raised three key demands on Thursday. The public meeting asked the hills side MLAs to resign apart from creation of independent administration for the hills districts.  Thirdly, they demanded immediate withdrawal of the three bills cleared by the assembly hours before the arson. 

Dissident Cong camp erodes

One after another dissident Congress legislators start leaving the move to join BJP. Kripanath Malla along with another have written to the party leadership that they would stay with Congress. On the other hand, Kamalakhya Dey and Siddique Ahmed told Congress president Sonia Gandhi that they would not join BJP. Of the nine dissident legislators, four have reposed faith on the leadership. In yet another development, three more MLAs are in touch with APCC leadership to follow the suit.  

PIL impasse leaves HC judge red faced

The ongoing impasse over PIL in Gauhati High Court on Wednesday touched an all time low when a section of the agitating lawyers tried to prevent the acting Chief Justice from entering into the court premises.The high voltage drama took place at around 10 in the morning when acting Chief Justice K Sreedhar Rao arrived in the court premises. On seeing his car entering into the court premises, the lawyers on strike prevented him at the entry gate reiterating a slew of serious allegations against him. An angry Justice Rao has no way out immediately but to call up police authority to contain the situation. Police commissioner Mukesh Sahai rushed to the court premises with security...

Journalist Hiten Mahanta remembered

Manipur violence generates heat in Delhi

The violence in Manipur erupts an escalating protest in New Delhi where tribal people from the north eastern state came out opposing the three legislations cleared by the assembly on Monday.   Under the banner of the Manipur Tribals Forum in New Delhi, the tribal people thronged the Jantar Mantar in the afternoon where they staged the dharna demanding prime minister’s intervention.
