Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Bolin, Bepari resign

Hours after they met Amit Shah in New Delhi on Saturday, parliamentary secretaries Bolin Chetia and Abu Taher Bepari put in papers. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has already accepted their resignations. Another parliamentary secretary Pradan Baruah resigned after Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma unofficially joined BJP.

Gangrape accused confess crime

The Sonapur gangrape accused confessed to have committed the crime after police caught them on Friday night. During police interrogation, one of the duo said that the victim was his classmate and that he and his friend took her on their car to be gangraped at Byrnihat in Meghalaya. They warned her of dire consequences if she disclosed their names and dumped her in Ural villages along the Assam-Meghalaya border early in the morning. After confirmation, police arrested the accused on Saturday.

Probe into Churachandpur violence

Caught in a barrage of criticism and controversy, Manipur Okram Ibobi Singh has ordered a magisterial inquiry into Churachandpur violence where 8 people lost their lives last week hours after the assembly cleared three controversial bills.The chief minister confirmed the probe when he was holding a cabinet meeting in Imphal on Saturday night.  The cabinet further took stock of the law and order situation in the vulnerable areas.

Fuel crisis rerun in Manipur

Parts of Manipur start bearing the brunt of landslides, bandhs and blockades by United Naga Council. A fuel crisis is waiting to hit the restive north eastern state when the paralyzing bandh forced many trucks to remain stranded on the way to Imphal on the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway. The existing stock of petrol will not last more than four days and if these are allowed  continue then the state had no way but to grapple with the impending fuel crisis. Deports, mostly, in Imphal town and adjacent areas have been rationing for the last couple of days suggesting that the fuel crisis is waiting to rerun in the state.

Landslide on GS Road

Two incidents of landslides heavily disrupted surface communication on the Guwahati-Shillong Road for several hours on Saturday night.       The first incident of landslide took place in Jorabat area forcing many vehicles to remain stranded for several hours on Saturday night.Another landslide incident took place at 13th Mile area where a huge hillock collapsed on the highway. It took several hours for the workers to clear the road.      

Arithmetic crisis! No

Congress is not worried at all over the exodus of sitting MLAs. Talking to Assam Times on Saturday, senior party leaders said that the ruling has already roped in at least 30 MLAs to help the government survive the impending constitutional crisis. These MLAs include AUIDF, BPF and AGP.“We would survive the impending crisis even if 20 sitting MLAs resign. We have number. Ultras killed in Moreh encounter

Army claimed to have gunned down two insurgents at an encounter in Manipur on Saturday. The encounter took place in Moreh bordering Mynamar in the afternoon where the suspected militants died on the spot. Details are awaited. 

Cong in stop exodus effort

Stunned by the unofficial joining of 9 sitting MLAs, two AICC leaders are on a visit to Guwahati to assess the political situation.  Hours after the nine MLAs met Amit Shah, AICC leaders Dr CP Joshi and Abinash Pandey landed in Guwahati and held a series of meeting in the city to stop the exodus.Talking to reporter after a meeting, senior leader Pradyut Bordoloi said that Congress will not suffer if a group of opportunist quit the party.
