Congressleader Ripun Bora took on Sarbananda Sonowal a day after the Union minister Union minister claimed that the Centre has released funds for the flood affected people.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Friday, Bora said that the Rs 270 cr fund released recently was the outstanding amount. “Sonowal is not perhaps not aware of these and that’s why, he has been saying so,” said Bora. Bora took on the Narendra Modi government saying that the Centre has done precious little to help the flood affected state.
As a maiden event for the Cotton College State University, the Cotton university Students’ Union (CUSU) in association with Roots Institute and Guidelines Institute, Panbazar organised the first ever Cotton College State University All Assam Inter Institutional Debate Competition2016 on 30th April, 2016 at the Sudmerson Hall of Cotton College. The event saw the participation of students from many prominent educational institutions of Assam and they spoke both in Assamese and in English. The Speaker of the Debate was Professor Jagadish Goswami, Head of Dept. of Economics of B.Barooah College while the Judges were Umi Deka (lawyer and a senior debater) and Nabajit Borthakur (News Editor, DY365).

In a crucial turn around, Top United Liberation Front of Assam leader Prabal Neog alias Benudhar Bora has been released from the Dibrugarh Central Jail this afternoon. At the time of release UFA Leaders, Jiten Dutta, Joon Bhuyan and Junaki Bora - mother of Prabal Neog accompanied him. Neog was arrested along with his wife and son by the police from Tezpur on 17th September 2008.
This seems to be a significant step as the ULFA-Governments peace process, as the A and C Company of 28th Battalion of ULFA declared unilateral Ceasefire with the state Government some time back creating an environment for the peace. Later the ceasefire group led by the ULFA Leader Mrinal Hazarika have been expelled by the top ULFA authority.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has asked the Chief Secretary to set up a one-man inquiry committee headed by Principal Secretary PK Choudhury to probe into the reasons for the rise in incidents of poaching at the KNP and to make recommendations for prevention of such incidents in future as well as measures for effective protection of the park. At the directive of the Chief Minister, a 12-member assessment committee headed by Forest Commissioner and Secretary BB Hagjer was constituted on January 22 to probe into the killing of a female rhino and its calf at the KNP recently.
