Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Strike disrupts surface communication

Surface communication remains heavily disrupted in Assam along with other parts of the country following the 12 hour general strike by the trade unions on Wednesday.Called in protest against the anti people or anti worker policies of the NDA government, the general strike began in the state at 6 in the morning. After a brief halt, massive waterlogging wreaks havoc in Guwahati disrupting surface communication on Tuesday.A huge portion of the National Highway has come under the water logging forcing Nagaon-Guwahti buses, trucks and other vehicles to divert the route through Chandrapur area in the outskirt of the city.Many areas in the city have been flooded following the incessant rains in the afternoon. The worst-hit areas include Lachitnagar, Anil nagar, Nabin nagar, Chandmari and the busy RG Baruah Road.

US tracing Louis bribery probe in Guwahati

Amid growing blamegame over the Louis Berger scam between Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and former GMDA minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, a Canada delegation is on a fact finding visit to Guwahati on Tuesday.The four member US team asked for a number of documents to cross check the bribery allegations against a section of ministers and GMDA officers. Dissidence intolerable: Gogoi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gave hint of a tough action on the dissident Congress MLAs for anti party activities saying that the party won’t tolerate these any longer.Talking to reporters after the end of the meeting with party vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, Gogoi said that the dissident MLAs won’t be spared until and unless they tender apology before the party leadership. He said under  no circumstance, his government not collapsed. Before that Gogoi along with PCC president Anjan Dutta discuss with Rahul Gandhi the state’s political situation after Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma deserted the party. General secretary Dr CP Joshi was also present in the meeting.

Chhurachandpur police station set on fire

Miscreants set ablaze the Churachandpur Police Station in Manipur on Tuesday at around 2 in the afternoon. Earlier in the morning, Assam Rifles jawans and Manipur Polcie were chased by a large number of  protestors and holed up at the  station. Meanwhile 2 more unidentified dead bodies were found in Churachandpur town area. Locals suspect that miscreats coming from outside the area  killing innocent people.  

Charred body found in Manipur

Yet another death has come to light in Manipur as the restive north eastern state continues to embroil in more violence.A charred body has been recovered from the ravaged remains of the house of INC MLA T. Manga Vaiphei in Churachandpur town, which was burnt down on Monday evening.The unidentified body was found on Tuesday morning in presence of police commandos deployed to firmly deal with the boiling situation hours after the assembly cleared the passage of three bills in the name of providing safety and security of the indigenous plains people in the state.

Breakthrough on trouble mongers
