Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Poaching rerun in Kaziranga

After a brief lull, poachers have struck again in Kaziranga leaving a full grown rhino killed in the world heritage site. The incident took place in Burhapahar range where the poachers have killed the animal.But they failed to take away the rhino as the forest guards reached the spot as soon as they came to hear the sound of gun firing. Indrani Mukerjea is battling for life after she was believed to have attempted suicide inside the jail in Mumbai on Friday.The main accused in the sensational Sheena Bora murder was said to have consumed pills before she fell unconscious forcing the jail authority to rush her to the hospital.Doctors attending her at the JJ Hospital said that she was unconscious and that she consumed some pills.After month long police custody she was remanded to the Arthur Road jail last month in connection with the murder of her daughter in Mumbai 3 years back.

Hepatitis-B camp for Shillong scribes on 17 October

The Shillong Press Club in association with Assam’s Dispur Hospitals has organized a Hepatitis-B vaccination camp for their member-journalists on October 17. The vaccination program is expected to start by 11 am and finish by 1 pm, where around hundred media persons of Meghalaya will be administered the first dose of the vaccine. NE joins Gandhi Jayanti celebrations

Assam joins the nation in the Gandhi Jayanti celebration on Friday to mark birth anniversary of the mahatma with a day long programme.Seminar on Gandhian ideology, drawing competition and Bhajan recital are lined up across the state on the occasion. Delay in ST likely for 6 tribes

Scheduled tribe status for six ethnic communities in Assam is unlikely before the Assembly elections polls. One after another hurdles seem to have compounded the process to accord the much-awaited status.According to the ministry of tribal affairs, they have not received anything from Dispur to change the modalities for the new status for Ahom, Koch, Muttock, tea tribes, Chutia, Morans. The ministry has been expecting its opinion from chief minister Tarun Gogoi which has not been received.  The possibility of the delay came to light when a delegation of a student organizations met union tribal affairs minister Jual Ornam in New Delhi recently.   

Nutrition shops in tea gardens

The Assam government will inaugurate twenty-five numbers of Nutrition Shops across the State as a Special Project under AssamState Rural Livelihoods Mission Society (ASRLMS) in its first phase on Friday. Bagan Bazars are Nutrition Shops and its establishment is part of the approach to improve the health condition of the people residing in the tea gardens. Blood Donation day

The Assam State AIDS Control Society (ASACS) and Assam State Blood Transfusion Council (ASBTC) observed National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Thursday with a flurry of activities.The state level function was organized at International Convention Centre in Guwahati. Welcoming the participants in the meeting, ASACS Project Director Dhiraj Choudhury said, “All healthy persons should come forward to donate blood. Miliki Baruah dead in Jeraigaon

ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah’s mother Miliki Baruah passed away at her own residence in Jeraigaon on Thursday. Baruah, who was bed ridden for the last couple of weeks died at around 12 noon. City bus service at night

In a move that would encourage the late night commuters in Guwahati, the Assam State Transport Corporation is introducing night services across the city from Thursday. ASTC officials told Assam Times that the corporation initially is running 20 on three arterial routes from 8 at night.“Our buses will ply on the Khanapara round trip covering Panbazar, Adabari, Basistha Chariali while another route will cover from Jalukbari to Khanapara via Adabari-Uzanbazar-Ganeshguri. The third route will cover from the Forest Gate to ISBT via Noonmati, Uzanbazar, Jalukbari,” said an ASTC official. The fares against the night bus service would be 50 per cent more than the existing fare of city buses.
