Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Utter anger grips Bhawanipur area in Barpeta district on Monday a day after miscreants kept a cow head inside a local temple on Sunday suggesting an abortive attempt to create an orgy of communal clash. The incident came to light when a few local residents discovered a cow head inside the Madan Mohan Gosain Than Satra at Banglipara. Senior police and civil officials arrived in the spot on receipt of the complaint. Assam on Monday joined the Mahalaya celebrations along with the rest of the country to mark the countdown to the Durga pujas. Rivers banks in many places were teeming with Durga devotees who started chanting mantra invoking the goddess. Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi turns 82 on Sunday. The octogenarian chief minister is celebrating his birth day at his own official residence at Koinadhara in view of his ailment. Senior Congress leaders, cabinet colleagues, MLAs and party workers visited Gogoi to wish him on his birth day.
A woman and her son lost their lives when a storm lashed the city of Guwahati on Saturday night. The tragic incident took place at Dhirenpara area when a minor boy died in electrocution after high voltage powerlines collapsed in the storm. When his mother tried to rescue her 12 year old son she also died in electrocution. Amid shock and anger, local residents blamed the power department for lack of maintenance which was why the powerlines collapsed in the storm. 
The Dispur police have arrested Juel Garlosa hours after the former DHD(J) top leader turned politician met governor PB Acharya along with senior BJP leaders to stake claims for forming the Dima Hasao autonomous council.A team of Dispur police station arrived in the residence of Garlosa and arrested the elected member of the autonomous council in the wee hours in connection with a case pending against him with the Lenting police station. Notably, Garlosa was among other BJP leaders who met governor PB Acharya and staked claims to form the Dima Hasao autonomous council saying that he along with a few others have joined BJP where Congress has reduced to minority.      ...
