Cong loses Dima Hasao council

The ruling Congress is all set to lose the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council. BJP moved the Assam governor PB Acharya staking claims to form the council saying that they have numbers.

But the governor is all set to hold a special convention of the council to examine the majority of the Congress. If Congress fails to prove majority, the council would be dissolved paving the way for forming the BJP council.

The bizarre development took place on Friday when five Congress executive members along with four others joined BJP. Now BJP’s strength has gone up from 10 to 16 in the 28 member council.

A team of senior BJP leaders on Saturday met Governor PB Acharya at the Raj Bhawan and apprised him of the development and formally staked claim to form the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council.
