Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

A local court in Guwahati remanded Gopinath Das to two days police custody a day after the AIUDF MLA from Boko was caught in connection with a rape case. Amid tight security police produced the suspended AIUDF leader asking for 5 days remand. But the court have him to police custody for two days. He allegedly raped his 14 year old domestic help inside his car and he has been remaining incommunicado for the last one month after police booked him in the case.    Police arrested him in the outskirt of Guwahati when he was on the way to surrender before the court on Sunday. 
Hundreds of AIUDF workers on Monday staged dharna in Boko to release Gopinath Das alleging that the local MLA was a victim of political conspiracy.The party workers thronged in front of the Bokopolice station demanding release of the MLA whom AIUDF has suspended in connection with the rape case.They further asked the party leadership to reconsider the suspension decision.Police arrested Das on Sunday aftenoon from the outskirt of Guwahati in connetion with the rape case against him.

Finally, the Boko police have arrested Gopinath Das nearly a month after they booked the AIUDF MLA in Boko in a rape case. Das, who allegedly raped his 14 year old domestic help was nabbed from Rangiya when he was on his way to surrender before the court on Sunday. Immediately after his arrest, he was taken to the Palashbari police station where a team of senior police officers has been interrogating him.Police booked him on August 29 under section 343 IPC for wrongful confinement, read with Section 4/8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 after the victim and her parents lodged he complaint at Mandira outpost under Boko police.

The Supreme Court is likely to hear the PIL advocating ban on sale and registration of cars weighing below 1500 kg. The Gauhati High Court which imposed a temporary ban on the basis of the PIL last month recently is believed to have transferred the plea to the apex court which will start hearing this month itself. Moved by a Guwahati-based lawyer, the petition created no less flutter in the country’s automobile sector much to a major disappointment of Maruti Alto and Hyundai.The High Court transferred the PIL after it received an application for the road transport ministry with the request where the ministry was itself one of the parties.  
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi asked the tea companies operating in the state to ensure 20 per cent puja bonus to the tea workers. In a statement, Gogoi maintained that 20 per cent bonus is due amount for all companies. He further said the tea companies, which have not decided as yet to pay 20 per cent bonus, should make their stand clear to avoid any unrest or resentment.He also said that the State-owned Assam Tea Corporation Limited has already committed to pay 20 per cent bonus to its workers.
