Vasundhara entrepreneur award

The 2nd Vasundhara NE Woman Entrepreneur will be conferred on September 19 at Shillong. instituted by Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, the wvent will see eight exceptionally talented women entrepreneurs from eight states of Northeast India being awarded in the state winners category and one among them being crowned with the coveted award for the year 2013-14.

M. Rajeshwar Rao, Chief General Manager, Financial Markets Operation Department, Reserve Bank of India, Mumbai will grace the occasion as Chief Guest besides a host of dignitaries who will grace the occasion as distinguished guests.

Instituted in 2014 by the Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati, it has emerged as a prestigious and one of a kind award and felicitation program covering the eight states of entire NE region. The award given to exceptional woman entrepreneurs with unique business ventures having a strong social commitment are selected by a selection panel constituted with eminent personalities from different sector related with entrepreneurship and business.

The state winners as has been declared by the selection panel for the  Vasundhara  NE Woman Entrepreneur of the year (2013-14) award are Lata Lepcha from Sikkim, Toko Likha Yaram from Arunachal Pradesh, T. Jemima Achumi from Nagaland, Moiregthem Muktamani Devi from Manipur, Lalhimpuii Hmar from Mizoram, Sukla Rani Debbarma from Tripura, Queency Thangkhiew from Meghalaya and Kanta Dey from Assam.

All of these women selected for the award have displayed rare sense of entrepreneurship and uniqueness in their idea and vision. For instance, while Smti T. Jemima Achumi of Nagaland has set up a fully automatic meat processing center with imported machineries from Germany and France, Toko Likha Yaram of Arunachal Pradesh has set up a cold storage at Banderdewa. Likewise Moiregthem Muktamani Devi of Manipur produces woolen knitted shoes and supplies to Indian army and also exports to countries such as UK, Australia and Korea. Their enterprises are exemplary in the otherwise male dominated sector of business and industry for which they have been identified and are being honoured, said Asomee Dutta Baruah, General Secretary of Sreemanta Sankar Mission of Guwahati.

The winner will walks away with a cash award of Rs. 25,000 besides trophy, a citation and a shawl and the eight state winners are being honoured with cash award of Rs. 10,000, a trophy, a citation and a shawl each.

Instituted with the sole objective of identifying the latent talents among the hardworking women entrepreneurs of NE region and recognizing and encouraging them for their endeavor and business achievements, the  award in its second year is being collaborated by the SME Division of the State Bank of India, NE Region and the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong. The award ceremony has also been organized during the IIM, Shillong annual management conclave  Emerge 2015 which will take place on 19th and 20th September, 2015.

Arunachal Pradesh governor JP Rajkhowa attended the Srimanta Sankardev birth anniversary celebration at the Kristi Kendra in Naharlagun on Saturday.In his speech, Rajkhowa said that Sankardeva was one of the greatest saints of medieval India. He was one of the most versatile legendary personalities of all times from the north eastern region, who played the role of a saviour of humanity in the region.According to Rajkhowa, the saint was a social reformer, who advocated for a casteless society, for betterment and welfare of women, and strongly opposed bloody sacrifices.
The annual felicitation ceremony of meritorious student of Mishmi and sportsperson under the ageis of cultural & literary society of Mishmi was held in Itanagar on Saturday.Eight students in academic excellence of 2015 -16 and sports brilliance were honoured in the function. A former MLA lands in trouble for alleged misappropriation for fund meant for the development of his local area. He is none other than Pranab Kalita against whom the Kamrup (Rrural) district administration has filed a case alleging sheer misappropriation for the fund.Initially, acting on the allegations of gross misappropriation of the funds during his stint as MLA in Palasbari assembly constituency, Deputy Commissioner asked the circle officer to institute an enquiry. The Deputy Commissioner is understood to have filed the case on the basis of the disclosure suggesting gross misappropriation of the fund.

A mild intensity tremor rattled Assam creating no less panic across the state on Friday. The tremor struck at 10-22 at night forcing the panic stricken people in the high rise buildings to come down fearing a disaster. Originated in Myanmar, the intensity of the tremor stands at 4.7 in the Richter scale.          
In a major boost wildlife conservation efforts, Goutam Narayan is the first Indian to have received the Harry Messel Award for his role to preserve the north eastern pygmy hog.   His name figured in the recent IUCN Species Survival Commission Leaders' summit in Abu Dhabi. According to the citation, Narayan has been awarded in recognition of his pivotal role in the Pygmy Hog Conservation Programme in the region since 1995 which would help the country save a whole genus from extinction.
Assam Congress president Anjan Dutta strongly criticized PB Acharya alleging that the governor has been behaving like a BJP leader.Speaking at a function at the state party headquarter in Guwahati on Friday, Dutta accused Acharya of trying to foment an orgy of communal riot in the state in the pre poll scene.Dutta criticized the governor a day after chief minister publicly tore apart Acharya for discussing political activities at the Raj Bhawan with a delegation of BJP leaders. 
Nine Haj pilgrims from Assam sustained serious injury at the Mecca stamped on Thursday. Identified as Jahanur Begum, she as been battling for life at the Al Jadid Hospital. This was stated by the ministry of external affairs in New Delhi.Four other pilgrim hailing from Karimganj district are believed to have been battling for life at the hospital.
