The power former minister in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet formally joined the saffron party after his initial meeting with BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.

A full scale operation is set to begin in the BTAD areas. This was what new DGP Khagen Sarma told reporters in Guwahati after NDFB(S) shot dead 6 people in two separate shoot outs during the last 24 hours.Sarma said that the security forces are all set to launch the operation to flush out the disturbing elements in the BTAD areas. State BJP unit blames it all on chief minister TarunGogoi for the Kokrajhar incident where NDFB(S) faction shot dead five Hindi-speaking passengers of a Siliguri-Jonai bus in Serfangguri on Friday night,Talking to reporters on Saturday in New Delhi, state unit president SarbanandaSonowal said that these incidents do take place at regular intervals only because of Gogoi who has been failing to deal with the law and order situation in the state.  
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said on Saturday that he would be happy if he sees Rahul Gandhi as the prime minister. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Gogoi said that the party has yet to formally declare the AICC vice president as the prime ministerial candidate but it the mood inside the party suggested that he would be the prime minister if the party wins the upcoming polls. “On many occasions I have said that Rahul Gandhi is a fit candidate for prime minister,” he said before his brain storming session with the party vice president.

At least five persons were killed when a vehicle carrying them to Manipur met with a tragic mishap at the National Highway 31 in Kamrup district on Saturday. The mishap took place near Baihata Chariali at around 4-30 in the morning. Altogether 15 people were travelling from Siliguri to Manipur and as the vehicle reached Kalajal, it rammed into a bridge leaving 5 passengers dead on the spit. Ten others including a minor boy have been injured to be rushed to the hospital. Local residents blamed it all on the repairing works of the highway which puts the drivers in utter confusion.
