Despite round-the clock vigil, suspected ULFA militants exploded two low-intensity in Digboi amid the Republic Day celebration in the oil town on Monday.Police officials told Assam Times that the low intensity explosions took place early in the morning near a railway track which were planted under a heap of garbage. There is however, no report of any damage. Security forces arrived in the spot and investigations are in progress. The explosions took place hours before the national flag was hoisted in the oil town.

The Assam Government is preparing a land acquisition bill of its own after it rejected the Centre’s move. Talking to reporters in Guwahati on Wednesday, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that his government has already refused to accept the Centre’s move, that’s why, Dispur is in the process for a new bill. Gogoi, however, said that he is not sure of when the new bill would be allowed to come up in the assembly. “If we will be ready with the Bill we will bring it in next month," said Gogoi.
