Former Assam Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta is taking the lead in the AGP-BJP poll deal discussion in New Delhi on Wednesday. Mukul Sangma meets Rajnath in Delhi

The Centre on Monday assured the Meghalaya government of all possible help to bail out the state from the law and order lapses. Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma received the assurance when he called on Union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana Approved

The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today has approved the ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ - a path breaking scheme for farmers’ welfare. As per this scheme there will be a uniform premium of only 2% to be paid by farmers for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. In case of annual commercial and horticultural crops, the premium to be paid by farmers will be only 5%. The premium rates to be paid by farmers are very low and balance premium will be paid by the Government to provide full insured amount to the farmers against crop loss on account of natural calamities.  Moreover, there is no upper limit on Government subsidy. Surrendered ULFA men stage demo in Delhi

The surrendered ULFA activists staged demonstration in New Delhi on Tuesday demanding inner line permit in the state apart from raising a few other issues. At 10 in the morning, more than 50 surrendered ULFA activists thronged the Jantar Mantar in the capital and started the dharma. "We want ILP in the state. Apart from this we do demand rehabilitation of our activists at an earlier date," said a protestor. Another protestor said, " we demand ST status for the entire state which is only the way to help Assam progress." ULFA-Govt Accord ready before Bihu

The top home ministry group is preparing a draft of an accord to be signed with the pro talk ULFA leaders to woo the voters in the poll bound Assam. Highly placed sources in home ministry told Assam Times in Delhi that the draft preparation work is nearing an end and the main demands have been conveyed to the former ULFA leaders who are believed to have agreed. Gogoi plans more protest in Delhi

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been camping in New Delhi to take out yet another protest at the Sansad Bhawan premises against the NDA government. AICC sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that Gogoi will this be joined by none other than Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi on December 20 against the anti-people policies of the NDA government. Gogoi struck nationwide attention on Tuesday when he led a dharna in front of Parliament alleging sheer injustice to Assam by the Narendra Modi government.  

Gogoi vents ire before Modi

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi alleged before prime minister Narendra Modi gross injustice hours after he staged dharna in front of Parliament striking nationwide attention of his charges.    Addressing a press conference in New Delhi on Wednesday, Gogoi claimed to have apprised Modi of his grievances for not getting due care and attention from the Centre.   "Modi assured me of special package to Assam along with other backward states," said Gogoi. Gogoi staging dharna before Parliament

Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is all prepared to stage dharna in front of Parliament on Wednesday alleging non receipt of central funds to the state. Party MPs from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are also joining Gogoi at 11 in the morning. Senior Congress leaders told Assam Times that along with the Ex-Assam MPs, they want party president Sonia Gandhi to join the dharna. Gogoi announced the dharna plan a couple of days back giving a deadline. According to the Assam chief minister, the Centre has not received an estimated Rs 20,000 crore due to the State, including in oil royalty arrears. 

ST status for 6 communities before poll

As assembly polls are round the corner days are not far for six ethnic communities in Assam to get ST status. Union minister for tribal affairs Juel Ornam told a delegation of Koch Rajbanshi in New Delhi on Tuesday that the process was on to accord the status to Ahom, Koch, Muttocks, Moran and Adivasi communities. He said that these communities will get ST status before the Assembly polls.
