The Centre on Monday assured the Meghalaya government of all possible help to bail out the state from the law and order lapses. Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma received the assurance when he called on Union home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday.
Dr Sangma, who met Singh for 40 minutes apprised the Union home minister of the prevailing law and order situation where an intelligence bureau officer was kidnapped to be killed later apart from a number of kidnapping cases within a short spell of time.
Both they were believed to have agreed on a number of measures to firmly deal with the situation. The meeting assumes significance where the militants have yet to free seven Assamese traders who were kidnapped from North Garo hills four days back.
