Green Assam is born in Margherita

Beware tree fellers. Why don’t you allow the surroundings to go further green in Margherita? The time has come----you must stop felling trees, check soil erosion. These will only help you get a clean Dehing river---you lifeline.

The river Dehing which flows across Margherita to reach the mighty Brahmaputra is getting dirty day by day. The old river has become a garbage ground for a section of traders in the Margherita township. A group of nature lovers has set up Green Assam in Margherita to help the environment remain clean in the entire area.       

The non governmental organization was born on Sunday at the Ram Krishna Vidyapith School premises presided over by renowned social worker Dharmeswer Chetia. Addressing the meeting, President of Margherita Journalist Association Ram Prasad stressed the need to keep the environment clean and fresh in the time of global warming.  

The meeting set up a 16 member committee keeping Rajib Rudra Tariang, Barun Bora, Deepali Pujari Sinha, Laxmi Pradhan Thapa Nibha Bora as advisers.

The NGO president is Dharmeswar Chetia while Ram Prasad Ambedkar is the vice president. Chowkham Gohain is Secretary while the assistant secretary is Dolly Hussain. Organising secretary is Mithun Baruah while Sukhanto Debnath is treasurer. The executive members include Ibrar Hussain, Hrishikesh Borgohain, A Debnath Dutta, Sonali Dey, A Borgohain.

MARGHERITA: A Legal Helpline Cell has fetched huge hope for the people of Margherita.  Courtesy Legal Awareness Network Centre Margherita which opened up the venture on Monday. Talking to www.assamtimes.org, the NGO officials said the main objective is to give free legal advice to the rural people in Margherita and its neighbouring areas. MARGHERITA: Armed men keep moving along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh unleashing terror among the people these days. Security forces nabbed the linkman of a rebel outfit during the stepped up operation in Margherita on Sunday. Identified as Nongbu Singhpo, the was caught from the Shyam Talkies hall in the town who is a resident of Wagon 1 District Changlang Arunachal Pradesh.   MARGHERITA: Army claimed to have captured yet another dreaded ULFA-I rebel who played a major role in the shoot out at a tea garden in Barhat last month. MARGHERITA: The Margherita Police on Saturday arrested four youths after the All Assam Schedule Caste Youth Federation Central Committee leaders tried to blackmail a local SBI employee. Identified as Jayanto Das(38) Ripu Das(32),Bolendra Das(37) and Pabitra Das, they allegedly demanded ₹7 lakh from the bank employee charging him of possessing a fake caste certificate, an allegation which the banker denied. The bank employee then lodged a formal complaint before the police who arrested the youths. MARGHRITA: Despite a stepped up counter insurgency operation rebels keep moving to monger troubles along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border these days.  Security forces claimed to have captured two NSCN-R rebels in Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday and seized some incriminating materials from their possession.   According to information, identified as Jongsham Chena and Chedang Chena, the biker duo were apprehended near New Longtoi bridge by 14 Assam Rifles jawans early in the morning. MARGHERITA: The Asom Sangrami Chah Shramik Sangha affiliated to CPI(ML) Panitola Circle Committee on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Tinsukia District Deputy Commissioner to increase the daily wages of tea workers to Rs 350.
