Jaiklong Brahma released on bail

Kokrajhar based Journalist Jaiklong Brahma was released on bail from Kokrajhar Jail on Thursday. He was arrested by Kokrajhar Police on September 2, 2014. The family members, relatives, well wishers and media fraternity received him in Kokrajhar jail premises and took to rented residence at Maldangpara (Mijink Nwgwr). He was bailed out with certain condition that includes prohibition of going out beyond district and appearing before PS on December 15.

Brahma was arrested for maintaining alleged link with the NDFB led by IK Songbijit and theDistrict Magistrate, Kokrajhar Nithin Khade on September 9 issued order to detain journalist Jaiklong Brahma working in the News Live based at Kokrajhar under section (2) of Section (3) of the National Security Act, 1980 vide government notification NO PLA 326/97/111. But, the NSA imposed upon him was revoked on November 16 last.

The Kokrajhar Press Club and different student and social organizations protested over the arrest of scribe and demanded immediate release of Brahma without any condition. Different media organizations across the state have protested over the harassment of journalist who has been focusing on the negligence on the part of the state government to control the law and order situation especially in BTC region that has been witnessing the increase of crime rate and other unlawful activities. The Kokrajhar Press Club took the issue to Press Council of India (PCI), Journalists Federation of India and Amnesty International for his release. They also called on Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and urged him to release Brahma without any condition.

Brahma first took notice of his two children who are appearing annual examination and hugged them emotionally. He also played with his two children for some time. The friends, relatives, well wishers and journalist fraternity met him at the residence in the evening where he shared his experience in jail and how he was behaved. He thanked the media friends for their role, different organizations and individual who took pain for while participating in protest programme and in legal fighting as well as to protect the freedom the press. He expressed sad over arrest him under NSA and subsequent put in jail without any serious crime for three months.
