APCU Foundation Day Observed
The 21st Foundation Day of Assam Press Correspondence Union (APCU) was observed today with a day long programme at Jana Mandir premises, Dudhnoi in Goalpara district. The programme was organised under the aegis of Goalpara district committee of APCU. In the morning the flag of the union was hoisted by Manoj Singh, president of the Assam Press Correspondence Union followed by floral tributes on the martyrs’ column by Md. Abdul Khalek, secretary of the union. Therafter homage was paid on the portrait of late Indra Mohan Hakasam, a journalist of Goalpara district who was killed by militants a few years back. It was followed by a Journalist Workshop in which senior journalist Rabin Bhuyan, Goalpara SP Nitul Gogoi and retired vice principal of Dudhnoi college Kshirod Khakhlary participated. In the afternoon, open session of the programme was held with Manoj Singh in the chair. Gobinda Basumatary, president of the reception committee delivered the inaugural speech while Rukmal Hazarika, senior journalist of Goalpara district inaugurated the open session. The Information & public Relations minister Basanta Das was supposed to attend the open session as chief guest, but he did not turn up. Naba Thakuria, general secretary of Guwahati Press Club attended the open session as appointed speaker while Dipanka Nath, vice president of AASU and Ramen Singh Rabha, general secretary All Rabha Students Union attended the programme as distinguished guests. In the open session, wife of late Indra Mohan Hakasam and four veteran journalists- Anupam Khakhlary (Dudhnoi), Subodh Dutt (Dudhnoi), Ananta Das (Dhupdhara), Haren Das (Krishnai) and Sarala Talukdar were felicitated with traditional rabha pajar and books. A colourful souvenir was also brought out being edited by Joy Chandra Rabha and Basudev Rabha. Dr. Gopal Phukan, principal of Dudhnoi college, released the souvenir.

Along with the rest of the state the 28th Abhiruchi Sports Day was celebrated at Dhupdhara in Goalpara district with the usual fervour on Saturday to mark the birthday of Assam’s first Arjuna Award winner Bhogeswar Barua. On the occasion a procession took out throughout Dhupdhara town by the students of Dhupdhara Girls' High School and Khairuddin Primary School. Two NDFB cadres were apprehended by security forces and seized arms from their possession in Assam-Meghalaya border near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district in the wee hours of Saturday. A 55 year old person was trampled to death by a wild tusker at a Village near Dudhnoi in Goalpara district in the early morning of Saturday. After damaging the house the elephant attacked Jogesh Nath when he was sleeping at his house along with other family members that night. While others managed to run away, Jogesh Nath failed to move fast and fell victim to the tusker's wrath, villagers said. In a major haul, police officials seized about 30kgs of ganja worth Rs 1.5 lakh from a passenger bus at Dudhnoi in Goalpara district on Friday evening.Four people have been arrested in the context. The heavy consignment of drugs were discovered when Dudhnoi police followed a lead by an unknown source and raided the bus AS01-AC-9722 on the National Highway. A woman was trampled to death by a wild tusker at a village near Dhupdhara in Goalpara district in the early morning of Wednesday. After damaging the house the elephant attacked Lalita Rabha (28) when she was sleeping at her house along with other family members. While others managed to run away, Lalita Rabha failed to move fast and fell victim to the tusker's wrath, villagers said. Thieves, who perhaps knew the movements of the members of a family residing at Charaibaha village under Boko police station in Kamrup District, succeeded in stealing cash of Rs. 1 lakh 35 thousand and gold and silver ornament on Tuesday, July 12 at around 10.30 a.m. Mauria Kachari, an employee of forest department of the village, alongwith other members of the family were away at the time, participating in a religious programme organized by themselves at a nearby Shiv Mandir. Several passengers were injured and jewellery and cash worth several thousand rupees was looted in a train dacoity held in the general compartment of Guwahati bound Jhajha Express between Dudhnoi and Rangjuli stations in Goalpara District on the Jogighopa-Kamakhya route in the mid night of last Saturday.
