Train dacoity on Jogighopa-Kamakhya route in Goalpara District

Several passengers were injured and jewellery and cash worth several thousand rupees was looted in a train dacoity held in the general compartment of Guwahati bound Jhajha Express between Dudhnoi and Rangjuli stations in Goalpara District on the Jogighopa-Kamakhya route in the mid night of last Saturday.

The train dacoity incident on Jogighopa-Kamakhya route has raised serious questions on passengers' safety and security in moving trains. The irony is that the loot incident lasted for about half an hour but the security personnel manning the train did not reach the crime scene, passengers complained.

The group of 8 dacoits who came with gun and sharp weapons attacked the passengers travelling in the general coach of the train with knife and forcefully took out the money and mobile handsets from passengers. Even women were not spared and their jewellery were snatched. The harrased passengers narrated their woeful tale when the train reached Rangjuli Station. Raids were on in the area to apprehend the miscreants.
