Daylight theft at Boko

Thieves, who perhaps knew the movements of the members of a family residing at Charaibaha village under Boko police station in Kamrup District, succeeded in stealing cash of Rs. 1 lakh 35 thousand and gold and silver ornament on Tuesday, July 12 at around 10.30 a.m. Mauria Kachari, an employee of forest department of the village, alongwith other members of the family were away at the time, participating in a religious programme organized by themselves at a nearby Shiv Mandir. This made the task of the thieves easier. The theft occurred between 10.30 am, the time when the members of the family left for the mandir, and 11.30 am, when they returned.


The thieves took away the cash and the ornaments after breaking the main door of the house. Meanwhile, Mauria Kachari lodged an FIR in this regard at Boko police station.

Alt least 17 cows including calves were killed when a passenger train ran over them near Dhanubhanga village, about 10 km from Dhupdhara in Goalpara district, on Sunday afternoon. The tragic incident occurred on the Guwahati Bongaigaon railway track in Dhanubhanga-Letekupara area. The animals, after grazing at the nearby agriculture filed, were crossing the rail track to return home when the incident happened, local sources said. "We are poor people. The cows were our livelihood sources," one of the farmers and owner of the killed cows said.
Based on tip-off, Indian Army apprehended the area commander of the 14th battalion of the banned outfit NDFB (S) at Balasara village under Dudhnoi police station in Goalpara district last night. The polling in Dhupdhara area of Goalpara district under Guwahati parliamentary constituency passed off peacefully except a few incidents of malfunctioning of EVMs in three poll centres. The brisk polling was witnessed in the morning today at several polling stations at Dhupdhara and its outskirts.
