Barpeta: LS polling in progress

Brisk polling is what undergoing in Barpeta constituency along with five others in the last and third phase of General elections on Thursday.

Heavy turn out of voters is expected in this crucial constituency where 14,24,638 voters are expected to exercise their franchise in 1906 booths which will continue till 5 in the evening.

Sitting MP and Congress candidate Ismile Hussain is facing a keen contest with AIUDF candidate Sirajuddin  Ajmal while BJP candidate Chandra Mohan Patowary and his AGP rival and former party colleague Phani Bhushan Chaudhury have been enjoying no less popularity and support.      

Counting will take place on May 16.

Senior Congress leader and MP Gaurav Gogoi today claimed that the Grand Old party-led alliance will win atleast one seat more than the ruling NDA in the upcoming Assam assembly elections. Interacting with media, the Kaliabor MP said that the people are now fed up with the policies of the BJP. “ People are becoming disenchanted with the BJP. In a major setback for the Congress, which has been struggling hard to regain strength since 2014, has today lost two of its prominent faces in Assam. Sitting MLA of Badarpur, Jamaluddin Ahmed and former MLA of Dergaon Aroti Kachari Hazarika passed away. The Dergaon politican was 59.
