Good news for Assam. Dr Sarbeswar Sahariah received the Padma Shri Award on Monday.
Dr Sahariah received the coveted award from President Pranab Mukherjee in a function at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on Monday evening.
Dr Saharia was awarded for his outstanding contribution to the field of medicine. He is the first Assamese to have received the award in this field.

The Assam wing of the Students’ Federation of India(SFI) staged symbolic protestat Dighalipukuripar, Guwahati on June 21 against the UGC’s recent decision to hold NET once in a year. The students’ organization rued that if the UGC implements its recent decision regarding the NET then a large number of students would loss chance to appear in the exam. Presently, the UGC holds NET twice in a year. Moreover, the UGC has decided to decrease pass percentage of the NET from present 15% to 6%. The SFI demanded the UGC to scrape all such decision to secure the greater interest of the students’ community.
