Actor joins TMC

Noted film actor Biju Phukan joined Trinamool Congress in presence of Mamata Banerjee at a function in Guwahati on Wednesday.

Phukan, who once contested the assembly polls from AGP told the TMC boss that he was prepared to fight the polls.

People thronged in thousands at the sarusajai Stadium to attend the TMC rally where Mamata Banerjee drew appreciation.

Ms. Banerjee clarified, while addressing a party rally in Guwahati, that Trinamool Congress was a part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government when it was headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee but her party would not support any party that incites communal violence and hatred on the basis of religion, caste, creed or community.

The Arunachal Pradesh government has barred all visitors from entering the State from 21 March. In an order issued on Thursday, the government said that all visitors/tourist inner line permits stand cancelled with immediate effect. Guwahati: The Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) election, scheduled for 4 April next, has been postponed indefinitely. Guwahati: Ratcheting up control measures against the Covid-19 corona virus, the Assam government on Thursday ordered the temporary closure of all liquor bars, night clubs, beauty parlors and salons immediately as a precautionary measure. Union Home Minister Amit Shah reportedly, has said today that Assam will not be brought under the purview of the Inner Line Permit system .
