Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. The Centre has sanctioned a huge amount of Rs 288 crore fund to update the NRC within a period of 3 years.This was what the government told the Supreme Court on Monday. The Centre disclosed the figure when the top court was resuming the hearing of a PIL filed by the Assam Public Works.The Supreme Court was satisfied with the preliminary works to update the NRC and fixed the next hearing date on August 4.
