Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Normal life came to grinding halt in the Koch Rajbanshi dominated areas in the lower Assam districts following the 24 hour statewide bandh demanding SC status.Called by the All Assam Koch Rajbanshi Students Union, the bandh started at 6 this morning where roads started remaining desert, shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices remained closed under the impact of the bandh.In some places the supporters enforced the bandh call by burning tyres on the road. The Centre and Delhi government are expected to file reports on the sensational killing of Nido Tania before the Delhi High Court on Wednesday.Acting on a suo moto case, the high court on Monday asked the Centre, Delhi Government to file affidavit on the recent dreaded attack on Nido Tania where the victim died. Police have so far arrested six perpetrators during the last 24 hours. Three were remanded to judicial custody while two others would be produced before a local court on Wednesday.

Union minister Pawan Singh Ghatowar’s daughter in law is believed to have died of cardiac arrest.According to information, Lija Ghatowar, the wife of Pranjal Ghatowar was rushed to the Sanjeevani Hospital in Dibrugarh after she was found unconscious inside her room in the evening. But the hospital authorities declared her brought dead.Pranjal married Lija only a few months back. Ghatowar is arriving in his residence on Wednesday. Suspected NDFB-S militants unleashed a reign of terror in Chirang district when they kidnapped a businessman from Runikhata on Tuesday.Sources told Assam Times that identified as Anup Das, the 40 year old businessman was kidnapped at gunpoint from his residence in the afternoon.Search operation is in progress to trace out him. But nobody has so far given the family members any clue. The entire area has been witnessing incidents of murder, kidnap and extortion by the Bodo militant outfit at regular intervals.
