Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. A reign of terror seems to have revisited Sonitpur district bordering Arunachal Pradesh.A group of miscreants from the neighbouring state stormed into a tiny hamlet at Naharjan area on Friday night and asked the local residents to quit the place early.Police was informed. But the armed fled from the spot before the arrival of police. An uneasy calm has been prevailing in the entire area since the Arunachal Pradesh miscreants shot dead at least 15 local villagers in Chauldhuwa in January.
Forest minister Rockybul Hussian is averse to contest in the Lok Sabha polls from Dhubri constituency.In a letter to the party high command on Friday, Hussian said that he is not interested to contest the Lok Sabha polls.He sent his letter to the AICC after the election committee of the party shortlisted his name to contest the upcoming polls from Dhubri.His letter, however, paved the way for Wazed Ali Chaudhury to contest from this AIUDF stronghold.
BJP election committee meets in New Delhi on Saturday where the party is expected to finalise candidates for 14 seats in Assam.Assam state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal has already submitted the applications of the ticket aspirants before the party high command.Reliable sources told Assam Times that the party finds it difficult to finalise only 14 candidates out of 141 aspirants.The state unit heavyweights met on Friday in Guwahati. But the meeting failed to prepare any panel of candidates and left it on the party high command.

Akhil Gogoi on Friday moved the Gauhati High Court seeking bail five days after he was arrested in connection with the recent self immolation case in Dispur.The court is expected to take up the bail petition on Monday. Amid tight security, Gogoi and two of his associates were taken to the Guwahati Central Jail after the court passed the order. He would be produced in the court on March 19.
The Kamrup Chief Judicial Magistrate on Friday ordered judicial remand for Akhil Gogoi when police produced the KMSS president along with two other associates in the court.Police registered yet another case against Gogoi. However, police have not sought Gogoi in custody in connection with that case.Amid tight security, Gogoi and two of his associates were taken to the Guwahati Central Jail after the court passed the order. He would be produced in the court on March 19.
Akhil Gogoi on Friday alleged a nefarious government conspiracy against him and his organization.Gogoi leveled this accusing finger against  the government immediately after landing at the CJM court premises in the afternoon when he was produced following the end of his police remand on Friday.   
Anna Hazare on Friday rallied behind Akhil Gogoi five days after the KMSS president was arrested in connection with the recent self immolation case.The Gandhian leader has already sent his emissary to Gogoi who visited him in police custody on Friday.Hazare is likely to visit Guwahati in the first week of April.
