Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. RAJU BARUAH FROM TEZPURCongress workers in large number welcomed Bhupen Bora in Tezpur on Monday two days after the AICC general secretary allowed to contest in the Lok Sabha polls from this seat.Immediately after he landed at the historic town, he was accorded a rousing welcome by the partymen who were waiting since AICC poll panel cleared his name.MLA Pallab Luchan Das was conspicuous by his absence in the brief but significant function while Rajen Borthakur met him before formally launching the poll campaign.     
A huge gathering of KMSS activists on Monday demanded immediate release of Akhil Gogoi, who was arrested on March 1 in connection with a self immolation case.Speakers after speakers came down heavily on Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and his government for arresting the KMSS president along with 5 of his associates.They further sent a memorandum to the chief minister through the Kamrup(Metro) deputy commissioner Ashotosh Agnihotri demanding the release of Gogoi who was remanded to judicial custody three days back.
Yet another major setback for AGP. Padma Hazarika has filed a suit against AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta challenging his suspension decision.The legislator from Sootea on Monday moved the Gauhati High Court saying that his suspension is not valid and that his suspension could have been avoided.Hazarika was suspended after he made a mistake in voting in the recent Rajya Sabha polls.   
A senior BJP woman leader in Nagaon district on Monday joined AGP after she was not fielded in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7, 12 and 24.She is none other hand Mridula Borkakoty, the district women BJP president who joined the regional party at a brief function in Ambari on Monday.Sources told Assam Times that AGP would field her from Nagaon in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.      
Senior police and civil officials met reviewed the state’s over all law and order situation at a meeting in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7, 12 and 24.Chaired by Chief Secretary, the meeting discussed in detail the security arrangement in the poll bound states.
A high level Election Commission delegation is scheduled to visit Guwahati on Tuesday to take stock of the Lok Sabha poll preparedness.Led by Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath, the delegation will convene a meeting of the top ranked civil and police officials along with the state election commission officials.Sources told Assam Times that the commission is likely to reconsider the date for second phase of polls in the state.Notably, AGP and BJP urged the country’s poll panel to reconsider the polling date i.e on April 12.   
Former AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowary has been inducted in BJP’s central poll publicity member after he joined the national party on Monday.This was disclosed by none other than party president Rajnath Singh who presided over the brief function at the party headquarters in New Delhi in the morning where Patowary and Hiten Goswami joined the party.     
AICC is likely to announce the remaining three candidates on Monday.Junjonali Baruah will be the party’s candidate for Nagaon while Wzed Ali Chaudhury will contest from Dhubri to face AIUDF president Badaruddin Ajmal.Talking to reporters in New Delhi on Sunday, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that AICC election committee has yet to finalize the candidate for Mongoldoi seat.Notably, the party has announced candidates for 10 seats on Saturday.
KMSS  will stage dharna in New Delhi on March 12 in protest against the recent arrest of Akhil Gogoi in connection with the self immolation of a KMSS activist.Gandhian leader Anna Hazare has already confirmed participation in the dharna at the Jantar Mantor in the capital.         
KMSS workers from the far flung areas have thronged Guwahati on Sunday to hold a huge gathering on Monday to demand release Akhil Gogoi.Thousands of people have already arrived in the city on Sunday evening. More people are arriving on Monday. The gathering will take place at Digholipukhuri where several noted personalities have confirmed their participation.Later, they would send a memorandum to the chief minister demanding the release of the KMSS president.
