Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. The Karbi Anglong police claimed to have killed KPLT boss at an encounter on Wednesday. Seven hardcore Karbi insurgents were also believed to have been killed at the 4 hour long gunfight near Manja. The encounter took place from 1 in the afternoon at a dense forest which ended at 5 in the evening. Identified as Thampur Teron, the KPLT commander in chief was killed in the initial stage of the gunfight.
A lower court in Dibrugarh on Wednesday sent Dr Dipmoni Saikia to 7 days police custody a day after he was arrestead in Sarita Toshniwal murder case at AMCH last week. The court further sent wardboy Kero Mech to jail to kill the PG student inside the ICU on May 1. Police booked Dr Saikia on Tuesday and grilled several hours in this connection acting on the statements of Kero Mech. Then police arrested Dr Saikia in the morning before he was produced in court where he was sent to police remand for 7 days.
