Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. ULFA's anti-talk faction calls a 24 hour statewide Assam bandh in protest against Prime Minister DR Monmohan Singh's visit to campaign in Assam for the Assembly polls. In a statment issued to media, the outfit's publicity wing leader Arunodoy Dohotia said prime minister has gone back to what he promised earlier and that he failed did not discuss Assam sovereignty to end the deace old confrontation. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is confident that Congress will be able to retain Dispur. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Tuesday, Gogoi said that his party still has good base in the rural Assam. Gogoi said BPF still is an ally of Congress.
