Anti-tobacco bill soon

Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma is hopeful that the bill to ban tobacco is on the cards. Dr Sarma informed the Assam assembly on Wednesday that the bill would be moved after cabinet approval.

the govt should inform all the trade bodies what products are banned or what not banned to save the petty traders from the meaningless harassment from the govt officers and so called many organisations. the sale of smoking items should also be banned in the state.

A grenade explosion seems to have oozed no less panic in Diphu during the 24-hour long KNLA-sponsored Karbi Anglong bandh on Friday.The explosion took place beside a petrol pump at the Manja Market in the evening. A string of sensational disclosure has come to light in the chargesheet in the Gadapani Pathak murder case.In its charge sheet, CID has named 12 people, including KLO militants and contractors. The charge sheet has disclosed a Rs 50 lakh deal with KLO for releasing Faizul Islam.Pathak, a Superintending Engineer in the Agriculture department was abducted by suspected KLO militants along with another Agriculture department official Faizul Islam on May 2, 2012. 3 NDFB militants nabbed

Bagsa police have arrested three hardcore NDFB militants on Friday.The militants were captured from Salbari area when they were on the way to extort money from a businessman.Four militants reached a construction to extort money from the contractor. In the absence of the contractor, they asked his assistants to pay money and left the spot. Later, the local residents overpowered them and after being assaulted the trio were handed over to police.

ULFA militant killed in Goalpara

Police claimed to have killed a hardcore ULFA militant at an encounter in Goalpara district on Tuesday.The encounter took place at Dudhnoi bordering Meghalaya during an operation led by Guwahati police. Acting on a tip off, Guwahati police launched an operation before the encounter took place in the morning.

NHPC GM still missing

NHPC general manager Anil Kumar Agarwal has been remaining incommunicado even 48 hours after he was kidnapped by NDFB(S) militants even as police arrested three persons in this connection.Police arrested Kumar Tamang, the driver of the vehicle ferrying the NHPC top official along with Puto Mooshahary, the owner of the SIM card used by the abductors and Nijon Daimary who owned the bike used by the kidnappers.NDFB(S) militants were believed to have kidnapped Agarwal from Bhalukpung along the Assam Arunachal Pradesh border on Sunday.

NHPC GM kidnapped

Security forces are spreading along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border to rescue Anil Kumar Agarwal a day after suspected NDFB (S) militants kidnapped the general manager with National Hydroelectric Power Corporation.He was abducted at gun point from Bhalukpung in Sonitpur district on Saturday on his way to Guwahati. Agarwal was posted as general manager in the NHPC's 800 MW power project, under construction at Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.Police called it a handiwork of the NDFB (Songbijit) faction.
