A full grown elephant was crushed to death when a passenger train rammed into two wild elephants in Sonitpur district on Monday.The tragic incident took place at Nagapathar in Rangapara area where Dekargaon-New Jalpaiguri passenger rammed into the herd of elephants when they were crossed the rail tracks in the wee hours.Local residents found the animal while the injured elephant is still believed to have been hiding in the nearby hillside.

After a brief halt, Dimapur again hits media headlines for wrong reasons for yet another bizarre incident where miscreants shot dead a trader from Jorhat in broad day light on Sunday.  The incident took place at around 1 in the afternoon at Shyam Bazar the commercial hub of Nagaland when four miscreants caught the saw mill owner Ashis Saha and asked him to board on their vehicle. A sudden altercation took place when the trader refused to board on the vehicle. Then the miscreants sprayed several rounds of bullets at him from a point blank range and disappeared from the spot. More than 200 people had a narrow escape when two planes carrying them avoided a runway collision in Guwahati on Sunday.The bizarre incident was averted in the afternoon at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.The Spice jet flight SG 653 from Agartala was preparing to touch the runway simultaneously when the New Delhi bound Indigo flight 6E-571 was taking off in the same route allegedly because of signal error.
