Witch hunt in Golaghat

Yet another incident of witch-hunting sends no less shock and anger in Golaghat district where local residents mercilessly thrashed an old couple for witchery.

The incident took place at Bhagawan Tea Garden in Borpothar where local residents mercilessly beat up septuagenarian Ticksen Tati and his wife Ratani Orang at a public place on Thursday night.

A section of local villagers told Assam Times that a group of people dragged the couple out of their homes in the evening and charged the couple with practicing witchery.

They denied doing anything of the kind. A section of the people who thronged the spot thrashed them and vanished.

Barpothar police rescued the couple in critical condition to be rushed to the Kushal Konwar Civil Hospital where they have been battling for life.
