The giving up of 600 acres of land to Bangladesh shows what the coming days will be like for the state and the region. This is not a trivial issue. We cannot expect anything else from the State ministers who are just puppets of the central government in Delhi. What is sad is that where are the ULFA leaders now? Why doesn't Arabinda Rajkhowa, Paresh Baruah, Sasha Choudhury, Mithinga Daimari, Bhimkanta Buragohain speak out against this land swap which has made Assam poorer by 600 acres of land? The peace process is on. They are going to delhi power corridors every now and then. Why didn't they take a strong step against this land swapping?
What about the All Assam Students Union? Where is the so called advisor Samujjal Bhattacharyya? What about those Assamese youths who took out a rally for a Hindi film song competition show in 2005? I hope people haven't forgotten how Guwahati came to a halt for 5 hours because of this hulla over Debojit Saha organised by AASU? One thing is sure, all these ULFA, AASU type organisations have hijacked the Assamese people from real issues from time to time. Media has also helped these profit making business groups by not making the people relaise ground reality, where the public should actually be concerned. Shame on us all.

Tribal villagers carry a malaria patient to the hospital in a remote village of Bilaihum, about 75 kms west of Agartala, Tripura on 03-05-08. Official said that at least 18 personnel died due to malaria throughout the state in last 15 days. Only last week the Italian ambassador to India has visited the state and declared to fund projects of International Federation of Red Cross in Tripura to irradiate the dreadful malaria disease that claims hundred of lives every year in spite of several precautionary measures. Mired in a controversy, the Assam govt has decided it will ask CBI to probe the rhino poachings in Assam. In its latest edition of Freedom, ULFA has said only a political solution could help Assam restore permanent peace on its soil. In a powerful bomb blast one 5 year old child Alima Khatun (age 5) was died on the spot at Koilagaon under Bijni Amguri in Chirang District at around 12:20 PM on 29-04-08. Alima was playing along with the other children in front a house after they arrived from their schools while that tragic incident took place. In this incident three minor childrens Kismat Ali (7), Chandrabhan (10) and Rashid Ali (12) has been injured seriously.
