Friends looking for writers

To succeed in this competitive global environment, every student needs to have high motivation, ambition and perseverance to face the various challenges that they face. To do so, they require lot of positive attitude and inspiration from peers. Parents in this age are looking for resources, books and journals that would inspire their children to have ambition and a global outlook to excel in their chosen field of study.


The magazine Friends is a sincere effort by the Non residents of Assam towards the upliftment of the Students and youths of the North East India. It contains articles on career guidance, education, travel and tourism, volunteering and Social entrepreneurism. Chief Editor Mr. Ankur Bora from Dallas, Texas, USA sincerely desires that students and the youth of the North East India will benefit from this journal as the motto of this journal is –To inform, to inspire and to instill. It is also expected that the parents will gift this magazine to their children as a valuable resource for career development and for their future personal and professional growth.

Preparations are complete to hold the second phase of Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.The second phase covers Silchar, Karimganj and Diphu (Autonomous District) where 29,26,762 voters are expected to exercise their franchise at 3,698 polling stations to decide on the fate of 37 candidates.Polling officials have already reached the booths to begin the voting at 7 in the morning.Karimganj seat is reserved for the Schedule Castes while Diphu (Autonomous District) is reserved for the Scheduled Tribes.Silchar alone has 17 candidates, including seven Independents. BJP candidate Kabindra Purkayastha is facing keen contest with his Congress counterpart Sushmita Deb who is MLA from Silchar assembly...
At least five persons sustained serious burn injuries when a market caught fore in the outskirt of Guwahati on Friday.The incident took place at Sontoli in Boko where a devastating fire broke out in the market in the wee hours.The reason of this ravaging fire has yet to be ascertained. But it rapidly spread over a huge portion of the market where at least 30 shops have been gutted to reduce properties worth Rs 3 crore to ashes.Fire tenders arrived in the spot an hours after the fire broke out. But by then many shops were ravaged by the inferno. Ten fire tenders took several hours to bring the situation under control.     The extent of damage has yet to be ascertained....
Amid an indefinite bandh by KPLT, Diphu is gearing up for the Lok Sabha polls slated for Saturday.Despite KPLT diktat, people in large numbers attended poll rallies in Karbi Anglong district. Congress candidate Biren Singh Ingty is facing a keen contest with his one time colleague Joiram Englang who is contesting with BJP ticket this time. The Karbi Peoples' Liberation Tigers (KPLT) militant outfit had called for an indefinite bandh since April 8 in the Karbi Anglong district under Autonomous District (ST) demanding immediate creation of a separate autonomous state.
Unidentified miscreants unleashed reign of terror among a section of BJP in Karbi Anglong on Thursday.The incident took place at Boithalangsu when the armed miscreants halted five buses carrying BJP supporters who were on their way back to home after attending a poll rally in the afternoon.Then they started blankfiring to terrorise the BJP supporters who started dispersing from the spot. Security forces arrived in the spot. But by then the miscreants vanished from the spot. There is no report of injury.

The stage is set. Silchar, Diphu, Karimganj are all set to go to the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls on Saturday.The electioneering in the three constitutions came to an end as soon as the clock struck 5 in the evening on Thursday.The second phase of polls covers Political heavyweights including BJP president Rajnath Singh and Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi have campaigned in these constituencies.
Amid tight security repolling is going on in five booths in Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency on Thursday.The repolling began at 7 in the morning where the voters are waiting to exercise their franchise from morning.All these booths fall under Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency where EVM refused to function properly on Monday.The repolling is underway at 38 Sensuwa LP School under Jorhat Assembly segment, 5 Pukhuria LP School under Mariani assembly segment, 84 Baharbari LP School under Sonari Assembly segment and 61 Khoragarh LP School under Amguri assembly segment.Repolling was ordered after the authorities were convinced of EVM malfunctioning. It will end at 5 in the afternoon.  
Congress MLA in Silchar Dinesh Prasad Goala is stable. But he would be flown to Kolkata for better treatment.According to information, Goala was admitted to the hospital after he complained of breathing problem due to heart attack.Doctors attending on him suggest the family members to rush him to Kolkata for better treatment.
